On our new Wilderness fiver we decided to park it for this season at a new water park. We realized that we "needed" to have our satelite for the tv. A fellow camper and myself played around with trying to get it to work with no success. I have since bypassed the trailer and ran the coax from the dish directly to the converter box and problems solved. So I tried to hook up to the DSS conection and still nothing inside the trailer at the tv hook up location. I then swithched to the other connection point on the outside of the trailer and still nothing. So what we have is two cable type connection points on the outside of the trailer and one on the inside of the trailer separate from the amplified batwing antenna conections. Am I doing something wrong or is this trailer wired up wrong?

Was the amp for the roof-top antenna on? This may be the reason the sat. box cannot send its signal to the dish and why you have no picture! Try both ports with the built in amp off just for kicks and grins. Just a thought. Good Luck!

COAX run for cable TV frequently won't work for satellite. There are connections that won't pass the 12v/18v voltage that satellite requires. My Class C needed a new COAX run to get the satellite to work.

We have two tv locations in our trailer. Neither location will work when the satellite is hooked up at the trailer locations. We tried with the amp/booster on and off and no difference. The coax we are using is for satellite applications and does work when wired directly to the sat. box(by-passing the traier wiring)

There are several possible issues... Here is how you go about figuring them out
One: Wrong cable.. A DSS (Digital Sattellite System) cable must run DIRECT from the antenna to the receiver.. You are allowed to have connectors, but NO electronics. So, find the DSS cable inside the rig and then using a "Battery and bulb" tester or using an ohm meter figure out which cable it is
One way to do this is to take a short length of coax and short it, hook it to the DSS jack outside and measure center to shell (nut) resistance on the cables at the entainerment center... If you find the DSS cable it will show zero
Another way is to do the same thing in reverse.. The Winegard switch can take a Multi-meter.. Battery and bulb might be bad
Another way is to measure for center wire continuity (Run a length of coax from the DSS jack to the entertainment center and measure center to center)
It is possible they have mis-labeled the cable
It is also possible they have CUT the cable at some point, in which case you will not find a cable that runs all the way through.
Another issue is stapled cables.. Sometimes they staple THROUGH the cable. Once you have identified the DSS cable remove all devices and then hook up just the Multi-meter measuring center to shell (Nut) Should be open circui
Finally they often use nothing but the cheapest RG-59 they can lay their hand on.. Though for the short run in an RV this SHOULD work.. Quality RG-6 has less than 1/4th the signal loss of the cheap 59.
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

In your quote you state it works when by-passing the traier{sic} wiring. That is exactly what I was talking about. Install another COAX that permanently bypasses the existing trailer wiring. It was the only way I got satellite into my rig.

If you are trying to run it thru your antenna booster wiring, it won't work. The receiver is what powers the dish and the power won't go thru the booster. That is why trailers have separate "cable" and "satellite" connections.
