VTX Hauler: I think we have just seen the beginning of the collapse of this economy. I heard someone say that it is just a slight slow down so we should be OK. (YEAH) I think he is in Wash. DC.

I have not seen anything close to that price in the West. I would not pay it. There are too many places to stay.

Dispersed camping is still free.

We mostly camp in forest service campgrounds. $15.00 per night. Fishing and swimming in the river is free. No charge to watch the critters. Quiet, except the the generators.

Sometimes we stay in an RV park. Water, sewer and 30 amp power is $38.00 per night.

I would never pay $100.00 per night to get away from the big city.

$100.00 a night. Thay saw you comming huh? that $39.00 a night ocean front, full hookup site we have reserved at Surf City. Is looking pretty good now. Shoot that $60.00 site we canceled at Lake Wood to get this one looks better too. . and that $22.00 site we have reserved in the NC mountains look great. Y'all don't tell them they are under charging. they aren't. Just being fair.

$100 a night is a LOT higher than campgrounds and RV parks in most areas we've ever been, even the resort style parks. We do a lot of boondocking and when we do stay in a park, we rarely pay more than $20 a night--EXCEPT when we "splurged" last year and stayed in one of the luxury RV resorts at the beach for $50 a night. I have to admit it was worth every dollar--Nice wide, long, level paved sites, beautiful landscaping, spotless grounds, paved streets, pool and hot tub, and friendly people--not at all like the "snobs" I'd expected to encounter! In fact, we hope to spend a month there next winter and if we hit the lottery, the first thing we'd do is buy on of the lots there. But until that happens, I guess we'll just boondock a few more days to compensate.

We have friends that rent a place on the beach every year for 2-3 weeks at $80 a night, and it's not even in a park so there are NO amenities. But I figure if that's what they want to do, it's none of my business. They can afford it, so why not?

BTW, we're fulltimers so we only go "camping" when we boondock and the rest of time we're simply "living" the RV lifestyle.

They get it because people pay it. Average sites around here are about $35 with full hookup. $20 on the low side and $42 on the high side. The $42 site has full hookup, concrete pad, big shaded lots, two swimming pools, arcade, banquet hall, paved roads, overlooks lake Ontario, sandy beach, tennis courts, basket ball courts...very nice..what can a site costing $60 more have to offer?

I love to camp and thought I'd not be saying this but - I'm thinking of selling my rig and staying in hotels again. I love the campfires and all that but with prices of everything not just camp sites and gas but food and EVERYTHING going up it just seems painful anymore... I'll buy me a sport coupe convertable and see the country in style - maybe stay in a bed and breakfast from time to time for some good eats and let the DW take a break from cookin'. Sorry to sound like the grinch but I think the economy is getting pretty painful...

Everything changes, my wife and I have truly been blessed. We can afford the $100/night sites but it seems like a ripoff. And most of the ones who stay there, are the ones who really can't afford it. Those are the one I feel bad for.

Oh - I think we can afford it - I just think it is crazy that just 6 short years ago gas was half what it is now and campgrounds seem to have followed the lead. I would rather sell out and find a different way to go than pay $100 a night. I remember when state campgrounds were $11 per night for water and electric. Now you can't stay for less than $25 plus a gate fee.

People act like $100 a night CG's are common. They aren't and are normally in high tourist areas and are end up being full in season.

I'd rather pay $100 a night to stay in my own bed than to sleep in the previous couples love stains at the holiday inn for the same amount of money.

Enjoy.
