Had no intention of even trying this, the campers would be rebadged as whatever brand we the line would be called, or would have model names based off their originating companies if the rights to their titles are public domain. The idea was to buy old campers, then rebuild/furb them and resell them as a low-priced "new" camper. I never considered ita a sound idea, or one I'd invest money into trying.

Just was waking up and reading and the idea kinda slipped into the back of my mind like a water snake into a body of water behind its prey.

Some folks have made small fortunes refurbishing vintage travel trailers. Why not TC's?

Joe: consider making parts and rebuilt units, like rear wings and other areas on the TC which seem to need repair more than other. Then sell to the TC owner who can finish the job himself. Some owners just need a little help to get started, then they can finish the job.

Are you sure you weren't on the morning toilet when you came up with this brain storm...I mean, it's like when ever I try to save a few bucks it seems to cost twice as much as I figured the job was worth in the begining.

Another thought on this is the fact that many old campers will not fit in the newer trucks. So you would have to narrow them a little.

Depends on the model. Stock my KIT would have fit on any truck with a back opening of 4' or wider. It would have had more problems with cab-clearance than anything else.

A lot of times one can find older TC's fro free. I have seen several lately on Craig's List. Just pick 'em up.

NOOOOO!! You will ruin our $400 camper club that way! Yes, friends of ours and us all have campers that cost under 500, so we started the $400 camper club. If you start buying them and refurbishing them, where are we going to find our cheap campers?

Actually it would be cool to see more of the golden oldies fixed back up though.

You'll never know if a venture like Joe describes will be a success unless you do your homework.

I mean market research; interviewing at least 20 RV repair shops and weighing their collective experiences; getting a handle on the furure of RVing in the RV class you are contemplating refurbing to "near-mint collector status"; extensively interviewing potential buyer cohort; and much more...

Could be an excellent idea; could be a mediocre idea; could be a bad idea. Difficult to tell from an armchair

Cheers,
