So, ok I have been reading here and elsewhere about different RVs, types, gas? Or diesel? Slide outs or not. this place is wealth information.
And I have been to different sales centers and been harassed by different lying salesmen. And I am getting closer,, Class B if I can find one big enough, or smaller Class C.
Gas powered, and new enough to have EFI,, no carbs. I am a Ford fan and keep leaning that way.
So now, I keep hearing and seeing stories from you guys and gals here, but still a ton of questions,, First off, I do not want nor need slide outs. When I want to stop, I want to pull in , fire up the AC ( if it is not already running) turn on the water heater, and step to the back and have a glass of chilled wine that has been in the reefer all day. Make some dinner, turn on TV or not,, and rest. Or read or what ever.. I DO NOT want to have to put up with the dang slides. YOU know? I got to where I really don’t like the front overhangs with the , to me, useless extras bed up there either. Besides which it blocks the view outside.
A used unit is of course not out of the question, and more and more I am leaning that way but the lying salesmen will not even show me used units, I am now trying to look at private used units. (I did make an offer on a used unit, but the widow wants top dollar for her rig, I don’t think she has come to the realization that gas prices are up and used units are a dime a dozen) and along that line what is the best link to get values? KBB? Or better one?
So where is this leading? Craig’s list is usually pretty vague and sometimes the people won’t get back with you. Our local rag sheet, newspaper, doesn’t carry many. So where do I look now. . And I am not a against an older unit and have read here that many or you have purchased, used and love them. I do have a mechanic I trust.
So where or how to I look now? Just take more trips to view them, IF the seller ever gets back in touch.
Those of you who have purchased used,, has your experience been good, so far?
Here on this site I will often see a post and really makes sense,, but dang I can never find it again,, is there a way to mark it someway? ( and when is someone going to make a dictionary of all the secret codes you all use? )

We have bought used a couple of times and wouldn't do it any other way. For our 5th wheel we used the internet and bookmarked major newspapers within 250 miles of us. We scanned the RV classifieds for about 5 months looking at 3 brands we trusted. After photos and emails we basically bought the 10 month old unit over the phone.

First of all, I'd say most people would want a slide out. Push a button to slide out and in. Couldn't be any easier to expand a room. Wish that my home had a few of these. Once you look at one pulled in vs. expanded out. You see why they are so great.
Take a look in RVing FAQ at the top of the page for the abbreviations and a lot more information.
We've never used it but many people use Ebay to find used motorhomes.
This also looks like a good site. http://www.oodle.com/vehicle/rv/-/make_pleasure_way/
I've had both new and used, with slide and without.
You take a much bigger hit on cost with new. Especially now when people are becoming so much more sensitive to the costs of fuel and the things that the rising cost of fuel are taking up with it. Used, if you feel comfortable with its looks, paper trail as to maintenance and service, and perhaps have had someone with experience appraise it, is the best way to go. I bought a used C that a doctor had. He wanted a new toy. I got a heck of a deal.
As to slides. If you are going to spend a lot of time in the rig, they afford more room. They do so at the cost of more weight (less for your stuff) and more complicated if something goes wrong. And there are things that can go wrong with slides. Weatherseal leaks, mechanical breakdowns, adjustments and other things beyond most people's experience to fix themselves.
So, what are the trade offs worth to you? There is your decision. And if you can do it without needing a loan, there is a lot to be said for that too. Cash talks (as to price) and long term loans on RVs are not a good idea. The loan will most always outlast the design life and value of the RV.
Where to look? Bigger dealers' lots, from the back to the front first. Consignment RV dealers (we have a very good one in this area). The front row at storage unit lots where more and more are showing up with For Sale signs in them, and anywhere else you cruise. Most important in looking is don't rush yourself.

I've got a good friend who sold RV's for 30 years until he retired, and he advised me to get the slide even though I wasn't interested in it. He said its resale value would remain MUCH higher. I bought one that has a slide that doesn't block anything if it is not put out. If we take the dogs, we put out the slide to give them room. If we don't take the dogs, we don't bother putting out the slide.

A rig without the overhang, with the large windows for the scenic view outside is a Class A. A Class B, Class B+ (aka Class C- or Micro C) all have an overhang, more or less, and the restricted view of the van windshield. I got the Class C with the overhang, but it does not have the useless bed. It has an entertainment center and lots of storage.
