Does anyone have an idea of what the weight rating is for the square metal bumpers on the rear of the TT's? I have a spare mounted to mine but would also like to get a RV Bumper Hitch so I can carry 2 bikes.
My sig shows my TT make.

if its like most square thin medal bumpers i would not attach anything to them with out extra work being done on them to make them more solid.i wouldnt even attach a spare to one.

They have an annoying habit of snapping off when least expected, dumping your spare tire, bikes, lawn chairs, etc. on the road behind you, and eventually you'll notice your stuff is missing! Usually they are poorly welded, prone to quickly rusting out, flex a lot due to the rear mounted position and at their prime only rated for less than 80 lbs or so (the weight of a spare tire and tire carrier). Since you are out of warranty on the RV, Forest River won't complain if you weld something on the rear of your rv, but be advised it could cause frame damage and/or affect the handling of your trailer.

I think you could put mopeds on them.

Repeat after me... THEY ARE NOT RATED!
The bumpers are about 1/16" thick, this is slightly thicker than sheet metal used for say a car or truck fender.
I was a lucky one, on the second trip found the one side of the bumper almost torn away from the weld. Had to dismantle two bikes to haul them home.
Never going to do that again.
RESIST the temptation to use the bumper to even haul a sheet of paper, you and the other motorists behind you might regret it.
I built a bike rack that goes over the top of my pickup topper.

My CT to TH conversion didn't have a bumper! Made one from 0.125" tube for about $80. I've carried 300# on the 2" receiver I added....never had a problem.

I have a bike rack on mine. I welded a 6" long 2" receiver to the top of the bumper. Not only are the bikes still there, but my sape tire is as well. Think about like this...you dont see spare tires all over the road do you?
1. There are bumbers and then there are bumpers. To throw out blanket staements about bumpers is wrong. That being said, look at your bumper. Is it continuously welded to the frame? Is it just spot welded? If continuous ...I would haul bikes.
2. Call your trailer mfg. They should be able to advise.
3. If in doubt beef up the bumper with some gussets.
4. I talk to every camper I see with bumper mounted bike racks, and NONE report problems EVER. Wonder why its only on here that you hear about it?

I agree, RAND....
...I've never seen or heard of anyone I've crossed paths with who has had a problem....although I'm sure there must be "mishaps," I'm just as sure we've all seen some rigs with every imaginable combination of "toys" bungied & tied onto rear bumpers, who get from point A to point B without any problems!
So many postings seem to say to me that many RVers don't even consult with local RV dealers....they just jump on the forum.....and they're willing to take anonymous(unqualified) advice, yet won't even ask the guys and gals who do it for a living.....doesn't matter where I've been-----every dealer I've ever approached has always been willing to have a look and give advice---sure, it included an estimate for him to do it! But, every dealer sells and installs bike racks and spare tire racks---some bumpers need beefing up and some don't......(just like some dealers ain't as good as others....just like some folks don't care for their rigs and blame it all on the mfgs. and dealers!)
Makes the world go 'round, I guess!

I was following a TT with a bumper mounted bike rack with 2 bikes the other day, and I couldn't believe how that thing was bouncing up and down! The strain forces on the metal must have been substantial.

Read your owners manual and/or call the mfg!
Mine specifically states to NOT attach anything to the bumper for transport purposes. So, I wont. If I ever do want to do something, then I will fabricate an attachment with a reciever mount and weld it to the frame.
Good luck
