My husband and I are buying our first MH. It is a 78 Dodge Midas, 18 ft. It has two chairs that are just sitting on the floor, no table and no couch.
We aren't keeping the chairs. We were thinking of building a bench seat where the chairs were. We could use the bottom for storage. We were thinking of maybe getting a futon for where the couch usually goes, also. We also need to build/install two forward facing seats for the children to be buckled in thier carseats.
Has anyone done any of this before? Would a futon be too heavy?
Any advice, suggestions, or opinions are greatly appreciated.
In an 18 footer you will be very limited on space. Get a piece of graph paper with the 1/4" squares and, using 1' to = 1/4" do a layout of the existing floor plan. Note where the furnace duct work is located and any other plumbing/electrical vents or outlets are. I think you will soon see when you add a futon, bench seat and two chairs that you will be very crowded...if you have the room. Using a scale plan will allow you to actually visualize any re-modeling.
