They really are curious creatures! I've got many deer in the woods surrounding my house, and if I'm on the lawn tractor, they look at me, I shut off the tractor and either 'talk' to them or sometimes 'sing' some silly song (the alphabet song comes to mind'. Back in my walking days, my cat would go with me on a walk, and the deer were curious enough to come close enough to sniff her (with me in the distance), and she'd do kind of a kick jump and scurry back to me and after a few seconds, the white tail of the lead deer would go up and they'd all 'bounce' off to the protection of the woods. I used to enjoy watching the deer graze with the cattle on the family farm.

Are you going to tell us where your campsite is? It looks a bit like the meadow at Calaveras Big Trees.

I have new strings so maybe I will have to get it out and try again. Boy when you have nature so close to you and Guitar or Mandolin music, there is nothing better for a evening of relaxation. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
I'm in an extended-family grab-bag at Christmas. A few years back my uncle asked for a Mandolin, which is a kitchen slicer accessory that goes by the same name. So I went into the kitchen accessory store, like BB&B, and asked if they had any. And they said to me, "isn't that a musical instrument?" I'm dating myself...this was before the "as seen on t.v. model" popularized the tool.

They must be pretty curious. I had a similar experience a few years ago. It was in Peterson Prairie near Mt. Adams. My teenaged nephews were off riding mountain bikes, and most other people were away from their camps in the primitive USFS campground.
I was sitting in a lounge chair, quietly playing a Gameboy. It was Tetris complete with the Russian style music playing in the background along with the beeps and boops as the tiles fell into place. (Coming out of its tiny speakers) I doubt if another person could’ve heard it from 50 feet away.
Over the sounds of singing birds and wind in the pines, I noticed faint noises and slowly looked up to see four deer walking around about 30 feet away. They were not afraid, and just moved a little further away when they saw me looking at them. They came closer and stayed there while I looked back down and continued my Tetris game. They moved off into the woods only when a camper’s car came into the campground. That was a nice experience to say the least.
