What we found is that very few of them are even salesmen. Most simply pointed and babbled. We had one fellow that was a salesman - that stayed in touch with us - that listened to our questions and made honest attempts at showing us what we wanted to see. Unfortunately, he didn't work for a company that sold what we wanted. Others wrote us notes and made phone calls to our home but they couldn't come close to spelling our name correctly or one didn't even know what we were looking for. Yes, setting out to purchase an RV does open the doors to a lot of frightening people. Forwarned is to be forarmed! Go into it prepared and know what you want - don't give up because they will try to talk you into wanting (needing) what they have to sell. Good luck!

We bought a used motorhome from a dealer in Florida (we're in PA, so it was sight unseen). Despite continued assurances from the salesman, whom I did like and trust, we hired an independent inspector to go to the lot and inspect the unit before we agreed to purchase. The salesman was flabbergasted, and also slightly offended, as no one had ever done this with him before. But we would not relent and insisted he allow the inspection, which he of course did. As it turned out, the salesman was completely above board and true to his word, and everything turned out in perfect condition, just like he said. He even added seatbelts to the sofa and replaced all 6 tires for us (they were showing some signs of wear), no extra charge. Oil change and full tank of gas, and we were ready to drive it back to PA.
Alot of good info. I will definitely keep this in mind when looking out of state.

We had a salesman offer us a very high price on our trade but then try to take back triple the difference on the purchase price of the new unit. They actually held out on the story that the price I requested "was impossible" until they called me back the next day.
Then... they could meet my price but they had worked out a "special deal" with the factory for me as "first time buyer" -- so they couldn't take my trade because that would let the factory know I was not a first time buyer.
I told them I would not falsify something to the factory and the story changed again. Slimy is right.
BTW - I walked on that deal after all the "misunderstandings" got too much to ignore.
