Well then, how about joining the military, that will teach a young un some responsibility, and what life is all about. If he's/she's smart, they will pay for a college education, give them a good career as well as a retirement after 20 years. JMHO.
One thing comparable between the 70's, 80's, 90's and 21st Century is the gutless wonders in our Government, from both parties, that have failed to act decisively in the Publics' behalf to develop a sound energy policy.
Obviously, the continued attempt to either ignore or satisfy every minority opinion on solutions has failed.
While THEY toss this political football around, year after year, most of us have been sitting in the stands waiting for a winning score and it hasn't happened.
It is past time that the majority demand solutions--oil derricks twenty miles beyond visible range on our coasts, pipelines in places none of us will ever visit, nuclear energy across the nation, AND alternative fuels.

I respect those that decide to join but if everyone joined the military were would that money come from?
I already mentioned that over $100.00 of that young ones money is taken away before they even get it....May be we should take more away from them?

The government doles out billions of dollars to young Americans that have never done a thing to this country except be born into poverty. Maybe if they served for a couple of years before getting a free education or job training program the next generation would have a little bit more discipline and self control.

So you think having seargent mommy or daddy tell you what to do, when to do it and how to do it, is the only way to teach discipline and self control.
Yes there are plenty losers that won't go into the military, just as
there are losers that come "out" of the military and just as their are plenty people that never signed up but had enough discipline and self control to raise and teach themselves..
President Lincoln was the first that comes to my mind.
Military might have been your way to "grow up" but it is not the only way. I am not anti-military I just believe in self reliance.
and my definition of self reliance does not include welfare either.

Not by half...adjusted to the consumer price index 50 cent gas in 1976 would be equivalent to $1.90 today - or - what we lay out for gas today is twice what we laid out in '76.
I never said it was the only way to 'grow up'. I also never said it was how I grew up. I was merely agreeing with another poster about it being one of many options that citizens of this country have to make something out of themselves while making a contribution. A young person can join the service, receive job training and an educational benefit all while being paid to defend our way of life. For the record, I was 'grown up' when I chose to join the military and the tone of your post does sound anti-military.

Actually, I wouldn't/couldn't do it.
I've played hard all my life, and spent a lot of money doing it. But, I made enough to be able to save and afford what I have now (with old money). I certainly don't know how I could do it the same way today. I'm just stating fact also.
That is why the RV companies and dealers are folding up.... Not blaming you but you are saying what alot of younger people are saying

When I got my MH I faithfully figured out the miles per gallon I was getting every time I filled up.
Then I thought ....WHY?
Was I going to sell it on the spot if it got less mpg on any particular trip?
Same thing with complaining about the price of gas.....why bother.
