I'm with big dave. Drain it and re-fill before each trip. I usually dry camp so my water is almost empty by the time I get home anyway. Also consider this, if you do nothing else, at least drain your water heater and leave the plug/anode out. If you leave water in your water heater for a prolonged period of time it will smell like rotten eggs the next time you use it. You will know it when you see the water. The water will turn a milky color and smells really bad. Trust me on this one. I found out the hard way.....

I drain it after each trip and also drain the water heater at the same time.
We do not drink the water from the camper. We carry bottled water for consumption.
We only use it to shower, do dishes and the toilet.
I am just not comfortable leaving it in there more than a week.

Safe answer is to not drink it. We always drink bottled water on the road. Tanks are fine for showers, toilet flushing, and dishwashing.

Us too. We stop at a local grocery store and pick up a few gallons of drinking water on the way out. Of course that's just for coffee. Cold beverages are usually either beer, wine, or are decorated with olives.

We are fulltimers and keep 1/3 to 1/2 tank all the time for traveling and staying several weeks in camp ground (water can be shut off) we use 1 to several oz. in water tank of Hydrogen Peroxide (very cheap in Wal-Mart) much safer than Clorox. We have been using this for several years.

empty here. I pull the plug on the fresh and hot before leaving the grounds when heading for the barn. I can't see lugging water around the country unless there is a specific reason, and I don't have one.

My intent is not to drink it. I dont even drink the water at my house because of the well. I'm sure it is fine but I live behind a farm and who knows what they are putting on the ground. Bottled water here all the time.

What I dont want is slimy, moldy, smelly tanks. Even if just for showering.

As far as why I like to travel with water, I do use the toilets while on the road and in an emergency would like to have enough water to take a shower if need be.
