We are getting into desperate times. The gas stations nearby have new signs posted "driveaways prosecuted". I scratched my head a bit....driveaways???? Keep stuff locked up.

I wonder what Love Boat II thinks a gun has to do with a theft in the middle of the night???? How would that have prevented the theft????
When I was working auto theft, I caught a very prolific thief by ordering a particular color, make and year tailgate and he went out and stole one. When a neighboring agency reported the tailgate theft, we booked the guy providing the tailgate. Oh, yes- I didnt' tell him to steal it and he told me he bought it, but with the theft and being able to track the gate, he got put away!
Love to do that to thiefs!

I went out to my farm (vacant) yesterday and found somebody stole the weights for the front of my tractor and a set of two damaged, non usable, chrome, not aluminum car wheels. I thought of a camera that hunters use for tracking deer, to catch them but they would steal that too. I like the Willie Nelson song, something to the effect of hang em all and let God sort em out. Very frustrating for law abiding citizens. At least I still have the tailgates on my two pickups (I don't think there is much of a market for rusty ones though)

It's true these are desparate times. One of my son's friends was sitting in his truck at the gas station waiting for his tank to finish filling. He glanced in his side mirror and saw a guy had removed the pump handle from his truck tank and was filling a gas can. He confronted the guy (Unfortunately for the guy this kid practices Martial Arts). End result was after the guy took a swing at him my son's friend kicked his butt and took his gas can. A little poetic justice, I suppose.

Yeah, I'm thinking of just putting a net in to replace the tailgate, and removing the campershell (cap) that's on it now. Wife just called - new tailgates come unassembled, and unpainted, so that's gotta happen to... just under $1K for everything.
What's a gun got to do with it? The sound of my 12 gauge being cocked would've run them off! Dang dog slept thru the whole thing! No more biscuits for her!

about 6 or 7 months ago, there was quite a discussion on this tail gate thing. I looked it up on some web sites and they cost about $50 to $60 each. you install. My nephew works for a car dealership in the parts dept and he got me one for $45.

I had a PM about my above post where I said a simple hose clamp around the hinge would help keep your tailgate from being stolen........I went out and took a picture of what I meant.....it simply keeps a thief from being able to lift your tailgate off and run.....they could still get it off but, now they have to have atleast a screwdriver and 2-3 extra minutes to get it off........it's not 100% foolproof but, it will help.....

Our Nissans come with a tailgate lock. I even went so far is to put an actuator in the gate and hook it into the power door locks. Door locks...tailgate locks.
