I had a PM about my above post where I said a simple hose clamp around the hinge would help keep your tailgate from being stolen........I went out and took a picture of what I meant.....it simply keeps a thief from being able to lift your tailgate off and run.....they could still get it off but, now they have to have atleast a screwdriver and 2-3 extra minutes to get it off........it's not 100% foolproof but, it will help.....Wrap that clamp with black tape, more time to get it off. That's what Idid to mine.

I like those new F150 tailgates with the step and handle never thought about just stealing one.

Lets see new tailgate $500 which would make it a felony 5 to 10 for theft naa I'll pass darn.

You can add an electric lock to the tailgate

(clickable)

When you click the remote to lock the doors, the tailgate locks also. I park at home in the boonies, so I haven't added it, but I've considered it if I could figure out a way to make the truck cap lid lock with one too.

yeah - I've thought about contacting the prospective seller, then going over and locking the tailgate to his truck if they had it installed..... then calling the cops.

"So, Mr. Dirtbag... just how DID you get the tailgate on your truck if it's locked and you don't have the key?"

Yep, I keep mine locked all the time. Last time my truck was in the body shop, they told me tailgates are one of the most stolen parts off a pickup truck. The theives can get several hundred dollars selling them. They're super easy to remove and walk off with.

Here in So CA. cat converters have been the target for a fast buck.

Had mine stolen about a year ago. Replaced it with a new take off from a salvage yard for $500. Now I keep this one locked.

That's why I drive an old truck. Nobody wants a tailgate from an 84.

They also offer a manual tailgate lock. I purchased one 5 years ago at the same aftermarket place I purchased my truck cap/topper & have had no problems.
