Depends on your definition of "best." The following is fine for pulling a TT and is very scenic and beautiful. The driver will have to pay attention to the roads, but the passngers will enjoy the views.

Take 24 north out of L'ville going past Red Cliff. Very scenic road- curvy but very do- able.

Take I-70 at Minturn east to the Central City parkway. C-City Pkwy is a new 2 lane raod each way (until you get to C-City.) FOLLOW POSTED SPEED LIMITS ON THIS ROAD. Very beautiful drive!

From C-City, take Peak- to- Peak Highway (119 to 72 to 7) into Estes Park. P-to-P Hgwy is a real nice drive. This route is very do- able with a TT.

Enjoy!

I have a question for you:

We are traveling that route in early August but reversing the OP's route. Leaving Ward and driving to Salida. My plan was to take Highway 91 at Wheeler Junction into Leadville.

We will be in a camper van, not pulling anything. Anyting wrong with 91?

Thanks!

Nothing wrong with 91 Wheeler Jcn (Copper Mountain.) That route will take you past Climax Mine at Fremont Pass (be sure to tune into AM radio for mine history.) 91 is a well maintained 1 lane each way wide road with passing lanes- it is more direct of a route than 24 and a little quicker, but my opinion is that the views and sights on the former is more dramatic.

Another option if your destination is Salida is to take the Frisco exit (off of I-70) to Breckenridge to Fairplay (FOLLOW SPEED LIMITS IN ALMA & FAIRPLAY!!) to Buena Vista into Salida. This route will take you over Hoosier Pass (1 lane each way and very winding, but a nice drive.)

Thanks for the info.. I forgot that it's the 4th weekend, but we're gonna try anyway..We got to Buena Vista and found a site the second try at Arkansas Rim RV park.. Traffic wasn't bad till we got to the intersection of there and there were thousands of them heading south on 285..Even around our area I haven't seen traffic like that..
