Hey everyone, I've got a couple more questions about this 5th wheel thing, We've only had ours less than a week so I'm sure I will be posting alot of questions. Question 1, Our rig sets next to our house the driveway is fairly flat where it sets but 1 1/2 foot beyond that it slopes quickly downhill. So my concern is knocking it back enough that it might roll down the hill, My thought is to set the trailer brakes and then back in and hitch up, is it ok to do it this way?
Question 2, if we leave the truck hooked up to the trailer with the trailer plugged into the truck will we pull power from the truck batteries? And if were hooked up to shore power will the truck batteries charge off the trailer converter/charger?

Thanks, Racfan9

you need to have the wheels blocked until you get hooked up and ready to roll.

Question 2 - it depends on the brand of truck. On GM trucks the battery line stays connected and you could drain the battery. On Fords, the line is disconnected when the ignition is off. Someone will chime in for Dodge.

1)Wheels should be blocked when parked, remove blocks when ready to go.

2)Depending upon truck, isolator may prevent trailer from drawing any power from truck unless truck engine is running(sometimes you can draw power from truck until truck battery is drawn down to a certain level of charge). I know of no setup that will allow trailer converter to charge truck battery.

You should have a manual trailer brake lever on your controller. I get lined up, adjust my height. I use Rotochoks, they are the first thing on when stopped and the last thing off before I go. Can't mess it up that way. BUT! I still use the manual lockup when hitching and unhitching. Good luck..

Man we miss living in Springfield!
