Our friends in Canada sent us this link about their Canadian neighbors who lost their life in Virginia.

How shocking it must have been for the traveling friends if they witnessed the accident.

Very sad to see.

There was another fatal RV accident here in my part of Virginia just last week - Virginia Gazette story. The details provided make it sound like it was also sway-related - no word on what started it though. And seat belts would've probably saved the driver's life in this case ...

It's such a sad story, My heart goes out to the family and friends. It makes you want to be an advocate of the safety issues. I know it's been beat into us to know these things, but when it comes to our adventures we let the fun get in the way of what really counts. Be safe everyone! Bella

Hate to see this. We were on I-77 a few weeks ago. A lot of steep grades. The kids and family are in our thoughts.

my wife passed that article on to me on monday i believe. as i told her, that could have easily been us too, 2 years ago. traveling down to atlanta in the rain, i think we were still in VA, either 81 or 77, i was coming down a small grade and got into a bad sway. i was taking up both lanes just trying to hold onto it. i had visions of being jack knifed and flipped over. i dont know how i held onto it, i dont think it was just me, someone was looking out for us. finally got to an up hill grade and able to accelarate out of it.

our thoughts and prayers go out to the family especially the little girls.

My wife and I practice emergency braking every so often while towing. Basically if I ever say the single word "brakes" (loudly!) she knows to reach over and pull the manual braking lever on the brake controller immediately. With our Prodigy controller this causes the trailer brakes to come on at full force and, at least in theory, should pull the rig back into line and help me regain control in the event of sway. Fortunately we've never had to put this practice routine into real world action, but I feel a bit better knowing that if both of my hands are busy fighting the wheel that she knows what to do in terms of applying the trailer brakes.

For what it's worth ...
