Can anyone tell me what is the best route from Plentywood Montana to Medora North Dakota? Thinking of taking US 2 east to Williston and then down US 85 to I 94. If there is another option where the road is in good condition, then please share your thoughts. We will be travelling at the end of the month and would like to make sure we stay on good paved roads all the way through.

Thanks!

I just saw your question - you may have already left. Anyway, we came up that way from the south a few years ago and it was OK. I'm originally from the Plentywood area. One thing, you might check on road repairs before you go. We got caught in a fresh oil situation and got it all over the rig. That was our first RV trip and it was a rental so I had to clean it all off very carefully. We really enjoyed the Teddy Rooseveldt parks. Lot's of buffalo. Have a great trip...

I have pulled my rig on that route on my way to Bismarck. Good road and not much traffic. I don't know about the current road repair situation. You might want to check on the North Dakota highway website to see if there are any repairs planned. Enjoy your trip.

You could also just stay on 16 down to I94 at Glendive. It will mean a little back tracking once you get to I94 but its a good two lane road. Also very pretty between Sidney & Glendive with all the sugar beet farms.

Hey thanks for your replies. It's been 15 years since I last went down highway 16 to I 94. We were on our way to Yellowstone and the Grand Teton's. This year we are going to the Black Hills and then across to Wisconsin. Was thinking of stopping in Williston to pick up groceries, but maybe Sidney or Glendive would suffice. I guess I have 2 and 1/2 weeks to decide which way we will go. Thanks again for your help.

What is 16 in ND like? It goes through a little town of Trotters, and a National Grassland.

US85 south of Williston is marked as scenic on ome of my maps. Another plus is it gives access to the north unit of T Roosevelt Park.

I'm curious, why Plentywood? Are you coming down from Saskatchewan via 6?

Yes, just to make things simple, I thought I would ask the question as if I was traveling from Plentywood and not Regina. I have already determined that it is not in my best interest to go on Sask highway 35 into ND, so I will stick on Sask highway 6 into MT and then find my way over to Medora from there.
