I went food shopping at the Safeway in Montrose, CO yesterday and after paying, I was told that because I spent over $100, I automatically got .10 per gallon off the normal price. Not only that, but it is cumulative. In other words, if I spend at least $100 on four occasions, I will get .40 per gallon off. I don't know how long this will last or if it is system wide, but I sure like it. You may have to have a Safeway card (which is free), but I'm not sure about that.

Albertson's has a similar arrangement with Holiday Stations/convenience stores.
The coupons also work at the Albertson's Express gas stations. The Albertson's express card also gives $.03 per gallon off at the pump at the Albertson's stations.

Yeah, but in CA everything is so expensive that regardless of how much is discounted you are still getting robbed!

"cumulative" means that after spending $100 four times at Safeway grocery, you will get 10 cent discount on four fuel purchase. I had a glitch that didn't give me the discount on the first card sweep, but did on the second. The station attendant told me that I need to contact headquarters to straight it up. For one dollar and twelve cents ????

Here it means that if I "save" up four times, it will be .40 per gallon cheaper when I fill up. I'm not sure what you are referring to with the $1.12???

The $1.12 was the difference between normal 3% discount and the 10% discount that computer glitch didn't give me. I am not starting headquarters case for this amount.
Are you sure your Safeway will multiply the discount on single fuel purchase? It never happened to me.

Naw. You will just get the discount on a larger number of fillups, not on a single purchase. Also, the Safeway in Farmington,NM just told us they were dropping the incentive. Bummer, I really looked forward getting that 10 cents off.

Of course their food prices are always 15% higher, so they need to keep you coming back some how!
