And from a Vet, I Thank You! Didn't particularily want to be where I was at the time, but am glad that I served. Very humbling. Viet Nam 68-69. Again I say Thank You! Please remember our comrades that did not come home.

If it were not for the sacrifices of many, we would not have the freedoms we do today. God Bless all our service men and women!

You're welcome and I considered it an honor to serve. My boys are 12 and 8 and I'm already working on them...and their mother, about how I feel every American, whether male or female, needs to serve our country in some capacity during their lifetime. Maybe by the time they're 18 they'll make some wise decisions and carry on the tradition. Great post.

I am a "peace time" vet of the late 50's and love uniforms. Maybe that is why I became a LEO. Thanks to all who serve and those who support them too. Happy 4th of July. Watching our flag go by and the sound of our patriotic music still gives me goose bumps. I hope I never lose that feeling!

I read this post with my 2 year old grandson playing at my feet. His Father left for Iraq on the 18th of June. I guess he is there in place of the son I do not have as he is married to my daughter. I served in Southeast Asia my father in the Korean war. My grandfather was in WW 1 and I have his Grandfathers diary As he was a POW in the war between the states. There are a host of others in my family but not so unlike many American families that have served to defend the rights of all. Maybe most importantly the rights of those that would hate us and slam us for our service. Without those rights we would not be this great country. I do scratch my head now and then and wonder why their are some that do not understand that their freedom came at a cost. We owe a great debt to all of those that have given their time effort and life. The only payment that is acceptable is our never ending love for this country and a willingness to defend her with our lives.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, SAC, the good ole days...Bunker Hill AFB...love those ORI's....Indiana is a great state, very friendly people. If you've never seen a B-58 take off in the dark, with all 4 afterburners lit, you haven't lived....
