Is Key Arena in that bad of shape? Granted it may not be a "palace" like some of the newer arenas are, but it's still functional, isn't it? What a shame the team is leaving after being associated with the city for such a long time.
We went to a couple of games a year and many concerts...Key Arena was just fine...clean and comfortable. Not enough $100,000+ luxury boxes? Tough beans. I am not in favor of tax payer money to support a private business and that's what any professional sports team is...just another business...just like an antique store or whatever.
Spend the money of the infrastructure..roads, bridges, power grid, water systems..

Actually, with the Sonic Drive-In company located in OKC, "The Oklahoma Sonics" makes a lot of sense.
Also, the Gaylord family owns the local paper in OKC (The Oklahoman), so maybe they could sponsor the team and they could be the "Oklahoma Gaylords".
Braums is a local ice cream and dairy chain in the area (great food, BTW), so maybe they could sponsor the team and call it the "Oklahoma Cows", or maybe "The Oklahoma Banana Splits".

Actually, no, I wouldn't be at any games. Since the Curt Flood case and the whopping salaries paid to professional athletes I have given up on professional sports, including college. I do root for my University of South Florida Bulls (football only). Owners have no loyalty to the players or the towns they play in. They love to hold the city hostage for new arenas and stadiums.
Even college players have no loyalty to the universities that gave them a scholarship. They leave after a year or two for the big money in the pros. Then look at the trouble the pros get into. Assault, muurder, rape, drug abuse, gambling, illegal betting, etc. What's to admire?
....I'm sure there will be some who'll consider it a good thing, such is human nature. As to the NBA, I'm actually not much of a fan anymore. Street ball and some of it's participants just doesn't thrill me.....

As a former Seattlite, I say GOOD!
One less reason for hordes of people clogging the streets and ferries.
Fewer professional "athletes" strutting around, "Look at me, I'm so famous and so big and so strong and I can get away with almost anything."
If I still lived there, I wouldn't miss it one bit.

Sad really.
I am not a sports fan. I watch a little football but not much.
But having lived in WA a few times in my life I know that it supports it teams unlike many communities.
But it's a business like any other and many talks and the team walks.
...while I certainly have disdain for some of the palyers and their lives, there are still a great number of kids, parents, and fans who still love and follow professional basketball....as is their right.
It might be wise to remember this.....as much as some don't like professional sports, and some would be happy to see them go away, there are many large groups of people who want something you have or do, to go away. If every group got their wishes. life would be pretty empty, dull, and pathetic. Being on the support side of what others find entertaining or recreational or fun might be smarter than being against them...........
...and when they finally came for me, no one stood up to help........
Although, I am not a fan of basketball, Oklahoma is excited to get a basketball team. All the talk now, is what will the name be, what will the colors be etc.
I am sorry for the loss of jobs, money etc. Maybe some will be able to transfer to OKC or get a job when a new team comes to Seattle.
While, I would not drive 4 hours to see them play, I have many friends that are already talking about going.
Now, if the put a Nascar track at OKC, I would be the first one at the gate wanting in. So, to each their own.
Good luck to the team in OKC, and sorry Seattle. Hope something good comes your way to replace your loss.
