I have, but I have always said big tires and towing do not match well, but it works, it was never a safety issue it was a performance issue. I went back down to a smaller tire for those reasons, not safety there wasn't any with my rig.

You need to decide if you want to camp or drive around in a jacked up truck.

If it was my truck, and I knew once I bought it that it was to high and there was no going back(contract signed). But I was also assured buy the selling dealer and GM that it would work with a 5th wheel....then it didnt. I would get the selling dealer to remove the 6" lift. At the same time have them put a simple leveling kit on the front of your truck, that way you can still run the 35" tires(Not that big imho). Shoot, a level truck with 33/35" tires looks better than a lifted truck anyhow, and with just a level kit your rear wont be much more than an inch higher than stock given the oversized tires.

Your gonna lose your butt on the lift kit though, While you might get them to remove it as a goodwill gesture, they aint gonna refund you the purchase price.

Oh and dont sweat the weight rating on 20's. There aint a manufacturer out there thats gonna sell an 8lug wheel that has less that plenty of weight rating.

Hello Armbruster,

I am sorry that I do not have any names to drop, but I will try to describe what I am familiar with.

I have seen 2 types of "towable" 5th wheel hitch set-ups. These allow the traditional bed mounted hitch to trail behind your truck.

The first is simply a stubby (short) trailer with an appropriately sized ball hitch. The weight of the 5th wheel trailer is carried by the stubby trailer. Yes the overall length of your procession increases, and yes you add one more pivot point.

The second is a similar short trailer that uses 2 class 3 type receivers (left and right frame rails) on the Tow Vehicle. This system does not add a pivot point however it does have the ability to float with the road surface.

Both systems do have their own axle(s) and tires to carry the load.

Although these may not be the ideal solution for you, they would allow you to:
1. Leave your elevated truck remain in the clouds.
2. Leave the 5th wheel trailer down on the ground.

Good Luck!

Armbuster, I believe you to be a person that likes the way things look.
Tall trucks with big tires look strong, but 5th wheel trailers with four or six inch steel tubing welded to the frame along with the axles flipped look horrible. I know, I have seen a couple like that and my first impression is they look unstable and very ugly since you can stand flatfooted and see all the underneath parts.
If at all possible, try to find one that's been modified and take a look for yourself.
Best Regards, Jack
