Are there signs on all roads that do not allow RVs? Is it clear where they want to re-route you? (ie: I've seen "truck route" signs - is that all that's necessary?) Are there maps/sites for roads we must drive on to avoid underpasses we can't fit under?

I just don't get the no-go zone navigating.

Put here in C forum because now I'm looking into a small C. I'm a bit dizzy with all my B/C/B/C switches. Hope you're bearing with me.

Why Full-Timing? Because at my age, I have maybe 40 more chances to see flowers bloom.

There aren't many roads you can't drive on. I try to stay on the main roads when towing. With a class C it shouldn't be a problem. Not many ohead obstructions that will stop you. Just keep your eyes open when driving.

Many of the "no RV" roads are in national parks. Yellowstone has one, also Redwood NP. Not "no RV's bigger than..." but no RV's period.

I don't mind towns (Morro Bay, CA, is one) that say no parking if taller than X feet or longer than Y feet. I can deal with that. But no RV's of ANY size, when I have gone out of my way to have a small one that fits almost anywhere...GRRR.

Over 20 years of having an rv and yet to find a road I am not allowed on. I think your worried about nothing.

2003 Jayco 308fbs eagle 33' tt, towed by a 2003 Ram 3500 slt, quad cab dually, cummins diesel ho, trailer towing package, with 6 speed manual. Hauls better 1/2, 3 kids, myself, and a 2003 ez go clays car.. I have added so far, neon lights, clearance lights, back up lights, black light, lift kit, mud tires, and everything necessary to make the golf cart street legal. It's now ready to spend the winter in the garage for more mods. More neon, strobe lights, alarm, a pa system, maintance, and whatever else that comes along. This golf cart does wheelies and travels thru 7 inches of mud when need be. Two honda eu2000i gens twinned to supply the electrical power. Latest addition an 04 Honda Goldwing. I've never seen prohibitiions SPECIFIC to RV's, but some "no longer than..." or "no wider than..." or similar. Most recent example I came acrosss is Needles highway in the Black Hills which basically only allows standard sized autos and light pickups.

You probably won't be allowed on the Going to the Sun road in Glacier National Park.

Pauldub is right about the Going to the Sun Hwy, they just started this the last time we were there, but we have been there three times so we have driven it before. The park must have stopped RV over 25' to make money, there's no reason why you cant get up it with a 30' MH but maybe some people might not like it.
As it is now if your not pulling a tode you can ride in a park shuttle bus for $60 per person round trip.
We have never had a problem, like your concerned about in 30 years of RVing, so dont worry about it, I do know how high my rig is and its noted on the dash, but Ive never needed it. And big trucks are higher and wider than we and you are. And you will get use to this in time.

Yes, I have seen signs stating NO TRUCKS, like on the Garden State Parkway in NJ, but RV's and buses are allowed. Just make sure you look at height limits on bridges on back roads, and follow the propane rules for tunnels and bridges regarding your propane.

See you on the road!

You'll need to know how tall _your_ specific unit is, and how much it weighs. Be aware of both figures at all times, 'specially on back roads. There are a few low bridges that you won't fit under, and there are a few old / small bridges that won't support you. Both will (almost always) be signed, but it's still _your_ responsibility to read the signs and know your numbers. This may having to occasionally turn around, back track, and find a different way. Sometimes there are warnings posted in advance, sometimes not.

This owner may or may not have encountered a low bridge, but it sure looks like he forgot how high his unit was.

Here are a couple examples of where an RV is restricted.....

1) Rocky Mountain National Park
The unpaved road that goes up the "Other" side to the pass
Alternative Route: Take the main road

2) Black Canyon Of The Gunnison
The paved road that takes you to the bottom of the canyon
Alternative Route: None. You have to stay up top.
I think they allow RVs, but limited to maybe 21 feet in length.

We tow a small car for a number of reasons, these types of limitations being one of them.
