As you can see from my note above, I sure wouldn't waste the money on this. Do you have a good surge protection system, or an autoformer? I would put both of those upgrades ahead of this for the conditions of use you cite. Or perhaps some of the driveability/handling improvements. Or perhaps an automatic satellite tv system. Or .......

How many reports of Wfco converters not going into bulk charge mode..does it take to make it a bad converter ? The only good thing about that conversion, is that its easy to put in. It is overpriced, and its performance as a hi charge rate charger is poor, and no better than what you have now.

My BIL bought one,....because I recommended it,....before I read all the bad reports on them. His like most others does not go into bulk charge mode unless the batteries are near dead.
And I'm still po'd about it.

Yep, got the Progressive Industries HW30C. My rig is 9 months old, but I plan to keep her for 30 years. I am installing ALL the toys.

I guess I will pass on the converter upgrade though. When will Xantrex or PD make a drop-in replacement for the Parallax 7345?

Properly sized and installed WFCO works great. The posts of not going to boost seem to be universally oversized and inadaquate wire for the distance to the battery. How many PDs don't go to boost mode on thier own either and you have to change modes manually?

Probably none. I had 65 feet of number 6 between my PD9160 and battery, it worked perfectly although I could never get over 33 amps out of it until I upgraded the wiring.

I have a 45A WFCO with 6 feet of #4 to the batteries. When it's below freezing, I can't coax it into bulk mode. When it's warmer, it works fine... except when it really hot (110F) and then it won't go to float.

Nope. Every single one of them won't unless you upgrade the wiring and even then they don't do like you think.

Why do you want to change the old one out?

That would be anybodys guess, but if you use the PD 60 amp, they will fit, because they are smaller than the PD 45 amp models. And its just a matter of connecting (AC in) a red & black wire,....thats it. A PD could even be installed in another location,.....as all it needs is AC in, and DC (pos & neg) to the batteries.

Just as reference, what does the PD and Xantrex do that the WFCO doesn't? As a plug it in and forget about it (except for checking water levels) I want the one that is best for my type of usage. Over 95% of the time I am camping with shore power (about a week every other month), or it is in storage with no power. Of course, the best for my usage may just be to leave it well enough alone. It is still new as I bought it new last September.

The Charge Wizard (Built into the PD 9200 line, optional on the 9100) controls the voltage during bulk, absorption and float Modes same as the WFCO, However if the voltage remains stable for enough time (Aroudn 25hours IIRC) it goes into a brief "Equalize" cycle, or de-sulfate cylcle. which may be a good thing.. The WFCO does not do this, I'm not sure it can be done manually (You can also force it on the PD)

The Xantrex. also controls the voltage, and current, during all 3 stages of charging, I'm not sure if the XADC is user programmable but my Prosine is. In addition it can do Equalization on demand. and the Prosine monitors battery temperature so it adjusts for hotter or colder days.. Something the WFCO can not do.

I rank the PD best, for flooded wet cells, due to the auto-equalize and the Xantrex due to temp monitoring
