Hi all, I am new here, and pretty new to towing a trailer.
I have a 07 Tundra with the V-6 and it is supposed to be able to tow 5,000 lbs. I connected it to a trailer (with my trucks Reese hitch) that weights 3800 lbs. (and a 350 lb tongue weight)

As I towed it, my truck would ofter surge forward and back .. while in motion.
What would cause such a thing, and can it be corrected ???
Thank you

The interaction of a bunch of things, the trucks 4 wheel suspension bucks a bit as the trailer pushes it, the truck tires bounce and the trailer suspension interacts over all 4 wheels also. The trailer tires also bounce, the trailer suspension and the trailer reacts to it and sends the movement thru the hitch moving up and down to the truck and visa versa. You'll feel surges, bumps, twists, and bounces constantly...it's the nature of the beast! Sometimes adding Monroe shocks to the trailer (if it lacks shocks) is often very helpful.

Thank you for the input ...

Could it be the heavy tongue weight of the trailer?

Do you think a "EQUELIZER HITCH" would remove the surging?

Are my rear springs too soft .. (I have a 2 wheel dr. Tundra.

Thanks for the help.

First of all it doesn't sound like you have any w/d or sway control, it sounds like you are just using the stock hitch and a ball. You need a w/d hitch with sway control. This will place weight evenly over the front and rear axles, right now you have it dumped all on the read. Get a proper hitch first. You will always have some "porposing" I even get it with my big truck, all depends on the roads you drive on, you won't see it as much on asphalt roads. If you have a auto in that truck you need a auto trans temp gauge as well.

Good Luck

Are you sure of your weights? 350# tongue weight and a 3800# trialer is only 9.2% on the tongue. You need to get it up closer to 12% and see how it rides.

Also, some road conditions will make a normally smooth rig buck like a wild horse.
