Which is the best entrance to take into Yellowstone for this campground? We are driving from Wisconsin, through Minnesota & South Dakota. Also do you check into the campground at the visitor's station by Fishing Bridge?
Thanks

We were just out to Yellowstone around middle of June. Route through Cody WY is the best route in. Fishing Bridge was full when we were there. You will need reservations if going there. We stayed at campground near Lake Village. No electric, but no problem for us. This campground is just 4 miles farther around the lake from Fishing Bridge CG. No problem getting in without a reservation. You check in at the individual campgrounds. The entrance-gate and visiter's center near Fishing Bridge can tell you what campgrounds have space. No problem if you get into park in the morning. Check-out time for people leaving is 10:00 am, so just plan on reaching wanted camground between 10:00 am and early afternoon. Plenty of room in our camground so any arrival time would have been okay.

The east entrance from Cody is the least driving distance.

The east entrance from Cody is the closest to Fishing Bridge. Don't forget to spend some time in Cody itself. Fishing bridge is a cramped campground. When i was hooking up I had to duck under our neighbors slide, and he had very little room on the other side. Our 38' DP had the back up against a small pine and the front bumper right at the edge of the narrow road. We were there last August and did not have reservations, but got a space at about noon time.

We do have reservations at Fishing Bridge. Thanks for all the info. Any roads to avoid while pulling our 5'er? This is our first trip pulling our 5'er a long ways, usually we stay within 2-3 hrs. of home.

I assume you'll be traveling on I-90. If so, your logical choices for getting over the Bighorn Mountains will be Hwy. 16 (exiting I-90 at Buffalo, WY) or Hwy. 14 (exiting I-90 at Ranchester, WY). Either route should be okay, but Hwy. 16 through Buffalo would be the easiest drive. Both are scenic, but Hwy. 14 from Ranchester to Greybull is probably a little more so, imho. If you take Hwy. 14, I'd suggest staying on it all the way to Greybull rather than taking Hwy 14A. I've been both ways many, many times but normally choose Hwy. 16.
With either route you'll end up going to Greybull and through Cody.
