Does that mean that I can add two quarts of oil and increase my mileage by 8 mpg?

Heck, why mess around with such a weak mixture. Fill up with SAE90 gear lube and you'll never run that tank dry!

Great idea. I tried it but I only got 5 mpff (miles per fuel filter)..

Tink about it..if you have a 35 gallon tank which is 140 quarts, you mix would be 1 in 140 or 0.71% by volume. Just another old urban myth.

One thing that I know a bunch of people doing is adding 2-stroke to the tank. On the 98-02 Dodges 24V's especially it adds lubrication back to the fuel, which has been showing improved mileage, quieter engines, and longer lasting pumps. Not 3-4 mpgs but .5-2ish. But the main reason is to save the injection pump.

I am not sure what other trucks this would benefit, mainly the pre 07 trucks that use fuel to lubricate the injection pump.

As far as running used motor oil I wouldn't do it. Years ago Cummins said you could run 5% WMO... today the eniges and oils are much different, and personally I wouldn't put WMO thru my truck.. think of all the******that is suspended in it. It would do a really good job of plugging your filter thou....

As far as 2 stroke the best results I have heard about are 1oz per gal.

A guy I spoke to at the CG said he got ONE injector replaced on his 2008 Dodge 6.7L Cummins. The bill (paid for by warranty) was $2700.

Don't know if I'd be messing around doing things contrary to the manual if you want to keep the warranty in tact.

By any means do not add oil to a newer, 2007+, engine.. they are engineered to run on ULSD and do not need any lubricity additives.

Personally I add Amsoil diesel concentrate to my truck every tank, for the lubricity as well as the acid fighting to help the soot loading and to help the oil last longer. I am not too concerned about clean injectors as I run a good fuel filter, and am about to put a 2 more filters on the truck, for a total of 3.

Todays engines are engineered (and the fuel is formulated and regulated) to provide consistent performance and long life (100,000 mile warrantees are routine stuff anymore) without adding snake oil. The primary benefit of Amsoil and similar aftermarket stuff is to provide an income for the vendor, not to increase mileage or any other benefit to the consumer (regardless of what their slick promotional literature would have you believe).

In my 5.7 engine I'm running 49% used motor oil. And yes the mileage goes up. There is more BTU's in motor oil than #2. Just like there is more BTU's in #2 than #1 fuel oil.
No, one or 2 quarts won't improve your mileage that you can see.

While it may have more BTU's its flash point is more than double, so when your idling, or light cruising its not burning efficiently... so your loosing lots of power, and creating an inefficient burn that will be hard on cylinders, injectors, etc. There is a reason that the limit on burning is 5%... and thats on OLD engines with low injection pressures.
