Anybody like to watch the Olympics? Prefer winter or summer games? I prefer winter, although if they would show more of the shooting sports during the summer games I'd probably prefer them.

I used to be quite an Olympics fan but with all the athletes who live in one country yet compete for another country it kind of dilutes the whole spirit of the Olympics for me.

DW and I'll probably watch part of the Olympics. We like the winter games better than the summer ones. I like all the skating events. I was reading an article saying there were lots of tickets still available. Interesting.

No. I think the Olympics is a waste of money, especially for the country that 'hosts' it. We've had a couple here, and the tax money that goes to building up infrastructure, etc., is money...gone. Do people use some of the infra structure after, many do not and it remains under utilized, I'm pretty cynical about the best of one country competing against the best of another country, for exactly the reason you cited.

The politics that go on...well that's another topic.

I also don't buy this malarkey about the Olympics bringing counties in the World together.

I will be watching as much of the Summer Games as I can. I had a conference in Beijing last year and I saw all of the construction going on in the city. They seemed to be really pumped about the games in China. Just about every street corner had a large sign indicating how many days: hours: minutes: seconds until the opening ceremony.

I want to be able to point out to my kids, "Dad was there!".

Hallelujah, finally some people after my own heart. Waste of my valuable time and the cost, well you can see that in the prices we are now paying at the pump!

No. The Olympics as well as all other sports is very boring and the networks screw up regular programming to put it on TV.

I also became very dismayed regarding the Olympics when I read an article a few years back where one of the US skating participants had paid something like $30,000 dollars for her skating costume. There is no way to justify spending money in that manner and I'm sure it could be put to much better use.

We watch only one event if we can find it on the taped broadcasts. The canoe and kayak events, slalom not flatwater. The broadcasts times will be somewhere during the sleeping hours and not announced in advance. At least it will give me more time to plan lessons and less channels to surf for a couple of weeks.

Nobody wants to see Bob Costas, Greg Gumbel, and a bunch of hard-luck human-interest stories??
