We watch only one event if we can find it on the taped broadcasts. The canoe and kayak events, slalom not flatwater.

Ahh, that's a good one. That is where they come down the roaring rapids and hope they don't drown before they get to the bottom? Reminds of the bobsleds in the winter games, which is one of my favorites.

Since Barcelona, and especially Atlanta when we went, the course is man-made and the kayakers have to move through the gates on their way down the course. I know that many people don't watch this but it sure is exciting to watch.

I'll be watching, no question about that. Anytime my country is competing, I'm interested. I can't believe the negativity toward the Olympic games in this thread. Most (not all of course) of the competitors are amateur athletes who have devoted their lives toward competing for their country against the world on this stage. Doesn't anyone remember how proud the nation was of Bruce Jenner, Mary Lou Retton, Carl Lewis, Dan Gable, Bruce Baumgautner, the 76 boxing team, and for the love god the 1980 Hockey team? Come on, Grey's Anatomy and American Idol reruns can wait for a few weeks........USA!!!

Always excited about the summer games especially since my sister was on the 1980 team when Carter boycotted but then made the 84' team and won a Bronze medal in 3-meter diving.
This is her.

I watched the diving trials last week and they had her name on a banner just behind the tower. Pretty cool to see my sister's name on TV. My only claim to fame!

Nope.

I find it excruciatingly boring to watch.

Besides I truly believe they have gotten away from the original intention of the premise behind the Olympics.

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

No

The Olympics are a waste of everything.

Hope the networks continue the way they have covered the last few by hardly covering it at all.

Hey, that's cool. Can't wait for the games to begin. Is your sister still involved in U.S. swimming in any capacity?
