List me as another who doesn't live for the Olympics. Or, for that matter, for any other professional sports.

My grandson just asked me the other day if I would be watching, I said not really the only thing I look forward to is the diving, it fascinates me to no end the skill level involved, that will probably always be my favorite.

We have hundreds of our youth, and a few not so young, working hard, and sacrificing a lot, to compete for the U.S.A. Many have, and continue, sacrificing much to compete. Sure, there are exceptions, as in any sport. However, rv.net is not going to be party to berating the majority of our athletics because of the mistakes of a few. Most of us, moderators, seldom voice our opinions on topics, but in this case ..... If you can't say anything nice, then just don't post! Thank you.

If we, (the United States) had paid athletes as many counties did, we would be almost unbeatable across-the-board, in most Olympic events. Is that OK to say/write?

We like the Olympics. I think it's wonderful that the competition continues. Like another poster we were in China in the fall, and Beijing is definitely going all out. We saw the arena where the track and field events will be held (built to resemble a crane's nest,) and the swimming venue - the outside of the building looks like bubbles. The Olympic Village is a series of high rise condo type buildings and each apartment has been pre-sold to a private investor.

Way to go MOD!!! Well stated. Good luck to ALL our athletes competing this summer. They're representing our country, and they deserve our support. Go USA!

We just had a local athlete break a swimming record getting on to the Olympic team. If I could spare the $$$$, I'd be there with my family to see the Olympics AND China.

I love the Olympics. My son swam with a team that sent four kids to the trials. None of them made it this time around. But if you saw how hard these kids work in the pool, and in school to keep up their grades you might have more respect for these athletes. And yes there are politics but I am able to separate that from the athletes.

I remember one summer my young son and I would watch the early evening Olympics go out to the pool visit and talk and come back in for the latter events. It is one of the special times you have with your kids.
