Does one need to adjust/readjust the brake controller EACH time they connect the 5th wheel to the tow vehicle? For example if we disconnect at a park and stay a few days, do we need to adjust the controller when we hook back up to leave?

You really shouldn't have to readjust your controller unless your terrain changes and you feel a need for more braking power.

It kind of depends on what brand of controller you have, but, theoretically, you should NOT have to adjust your controller each time you hook up. However, again depending on the quality of the controller, you may have to occasionally change the setting for gravel roads, wet roads, etc. A little experience will let you get a feel for when you need to adjust it, such as wheels locking up when applying the brakes on a gravel road, or not enought stopping power when going downhill etc. Before I went out and bought a new controller, I would drive mine out a few times to get used to how it works. If you decide to buy a new one, most people would probably recommend a Prodigy, but there are several brands that would serve you well. So, without adjusting every time you hook up, just drive the rig and see how it responds, and if necessary, make SMALL adjustments to fine tune it. Good luck.

Tekonsha P3 here and I set it once and forget it. Took a little to get it set up correctly, but works very well with Boost 3 and about 8.7 volts.

I have a Prodigy and just re-adjusted it on our last trip. I usually don't have to do that but it started getting a bit "grabby". The problem with adjusting your brake controller before each trip is that your trailer brakes really don't start working well until they heat up. With the Prodigy I adjust the controller dial after the brakes heat up and then use b1, b2, or b3 as needed. I never have to touch the dial setting. If you adjust your brake controller too high before your brakes heat up (which I did), your brakes will grab.....

It depends on if you have grandkids. Mine can adjust everything with a dial and throw every switch in 2 seconds flat. My point is always check the setpoint and boost. I hate surprises.
Fun is that stuff that happens in between mistakes.

I had to adjust my Prodigy during our recent trip to the coast, but that was because my grandson (He's 3) did a little adjusting of his own while "driving" Papa's truck. HAHAHAHA
