Hi all...
We are escaping to Zion without the kids. We live in south orange county and will be pulling our 26ft toy hauler. Whats the fastest and safest route? How long should we expect the trip to take traveling at 55mph?
(Last time we went we were driving a corolla and stayed a night in Vegas before traveling on. This time we want to skip Vegas and travel straight through but also know we will driving a lot slower).

Just get on I-15 and make like the Energizer bunny and keep going and going.
At 55 mph you might want to stay the night in either St. George or Cedar City, you are talking around 450 miles to get there.
Also, there is construction along I-15 that could slow you down some.

Start early if you want to drive the speed limit and arrive in daylight. 4am start would be good. I think it took us 10 hours to get there a couple years ago. Vegas is about half way. 55 mph to the CA border then 65 max is my recomendation on speed. As said straight up the 15 is the best route. Plan your meals and fuel together to minimize stopping. I always seem to lose 30/45 minutes minimum if I pull off.

Thanks....figured it would take a lot longer (seems like we made it home in 6 hours last time but we were younger and stupider). Maybe we will overnight in vegas after all....
We only have 4 days before we have to be back to pick up the kids ....

Huh? Vegas is only about 3 hours(or less)from Zion. And you don't HAVE to drive 55 in Utah or Nevada. You've got to take it easy up thru the Virgin River Gorge, but before and after you're going to have to scoot or get run over. Of course I will always advise taking your time. You really wanna stay in Vegas? You may never get to Zion.

Yes Yahoo maps says 2:47 Vegas to Zion. I think we may have had a long dinner stop and some other detour that I was trying to forget. 10 hours would be max. 7 to 8 hours drive time is more realistic. I would not stop in Vegas.

4 hours to L.V. from So. county at 55 mph? I don't think so, more like 5 1/2 to 6. It takes me 4 1/2 to 5 at 70+. Plan on 3 1/2 to 4 from L.V.
