For those of you who might be considering Route 2 as a connector route across Maine from US 91 to I-95, I would suggest you reconsider. It is bad road that gets worse and in spots, disappears entirely in a very long construction zone. We were convinced our cabinets would fall off the walls and our truck dashboard would hit our knees. Yes, we slowed to a crawl and it was still bone-jarring. Yesterday, it took us 7 hours to cover 230 miles from Bethel, ME, to Calais,connecting first with I-95 to Bangor, then Route 9 to Calais.
And the stretch from U.S. 91 to Bethel is almost -- I say, almost -- as bad.

Yes it is a rough road, but much better than the only view is the trucks you see on the interstates.
