I use woodalls. I have actually watched them show up at a campground I was at to do an inspection. Very thorough.
You can also call the city's chamber of commerce. Years ago I was in business for myself. When we where going to start a new project out of state, I would call the chamber and get info like hotels, campgrounds, laundry mats, welding supplies, etc. They where always helpful and would fax me all kinds of information.

I usually go to Microsoft Streets & Trips. IT contains the Woodall's guide
IF, and I stress IF you are a member you can go to AAA, I do that too.
And I check multiple other sources as well.. Too many to list

I like Reserve America
Pretty cool site, plus you can see the layout of the campground, or if all else fails, "google it"

I use Woodalls, Trailer Life Directory, and Google Earth. I am usually successful with one or more of the sources.

I use Google Maps. Just type in the zip code + the word "campgrounds" and wala... the campground appear on the map and if they have a web site, they can be found easily. You can also type in the name of the location + the word "campgrounds". You can also use the satellite photo to zoom in.

TakingTerns wrote: Where do you look to find information on campgrounds near (not exactly in) a specific city or town? We want to visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. We'll be traveling in a Class C with a dinghy that has our sea kayaks on the roof (for other stops on this trip). I don't want to drive either the whole rig or the dingy and kayaks into Cleveland, so we'd like to find a nearby campground that offers either a shuttle into town, or a connection with some public transporation that can take us into town, while we leave our vehicles parked at the campground.
I've checked the TL RV Road Atlas, the TL Directory and Good Sam web site. The two TL resources show no campgrounds particularly close, but a dozen or so a reasonable drive away. Do I now have to phone each one of them to ask about the transportation? The Good Sam site appears to have not heard of Cleveland. The map returns just blue - apparently Lake Erie - no land features. Checking the same feature for Canton the map shows the NFL Hall of Fame. Great, but I can't camp there. What am I doing wrong, that keeps me from finding nearby campgrounds?
Since I live not far from there I can say the hall of fame and a few other sites are located right on the lake and the city sprawls out from there and there are no close campgrounds or public transportation to areas further out where campgrounds are located. You may find a possible way by several bus connections though. www.rvthereyet.com has one called swift hollow that my friend likes and I personally haven't stayed at any local campgrounds myself but have had some friends and saw nice reviews for some west of Cleveland in Lorain County, that is where it is located as I have seen others that I plan on going someday. Anyway that area is about as close as you will get to your destination that I would recommend. But you will have to drive about half hour to get to your destination or the rapid depot depending on where you do stay.
