I'm usually very considerate to others and their property but when we first started camping my wife had to tell me once not to walk across other sites. I felt sort of foolish for not thinking of it myself but I'm glad someone pointed out my error. My vote would be for letting the offender know in a tactful way. You'll be doing them a favor.

Stretching the subject a little. While touring Italy a few years ago I (wife was off shopping) stopped by a small sidewalk cafe for something to drink. It was hot and my feet were sore so I placed them on another chair next to me. Shortly afterwards a waiter came over and discretely said that it was not nice for me to put my feet up like that. Again, I felt like a real a** for not being more considerate, especially being in a foreign country. You know, the ugly American sort of thing. I'll always remember the lesson learned that day taught by someone that did it in a nice way.

Just say something to them about cutting through your site.

Had this happens - twice - at different campgrounds.

First time was our first time out. a couple of kids kept cutting through our campsite to get to the restroom. We finally got a bit fed up when they started riding their bikes through too. We said something to the kids - got a dirty look and scowling from them but they stopped.

The other time we had a disabled campsite so it was nicely paved and very wide(before anyone says anything - yes, I am permanently disabled). literally 2ft East of our campsite was the walkway to the restrooms but people kept cutting through our campsite anyway. It was getting irritating so after we had come back from a sightseeing tour we parked our nice big SUV at the top of the trailer going the opposite way. We kind of enjoyed the looks of confusion when they walked (while talking) through our site to find that they were blocked in. Only ways out were to crawl over the hood, crawl up and over the trailer tongue around the propane tanks or turnaround and walk out the way they came in. I conveniently happened to come out of our trailer at that point and said nicely - the path to the restroom is not through our campsite but right over there (while pointing to it).

For the rest of the week, no matter how we parked our SUV - no one walked through the campsite any longer (though we typically found the blocking very purposeful and sent a good message).

Now, whenever we camp, wherever we camp we make sure to park our tow vehicle in such a manner that it makes it hard to use our campsite as a thorough-fare to point B.

It has happened more than once while camping favorite site/fav CG - even had 'em walk between table & MH. Some people just ain't got no couth. Ask them if they walk thru peoples houses at home & all you get is a blank stare. I try to put up as many hammocks as trees allow. And a few ankle high dog cables. Even carry a roll of yellow&black 'caution' tape. Usually works on MOST people.

I've been there too. Next time I plan to string up a couple of clothes lines and party lights in strategic spots.

Clotheslines work really well for this. Also leaving out a pile of doggy poo near the area where the offenders go works too. We have also done the "strategic parking" with our truck/SUV's or utlility trailer. Also sometimes just a subtle comment about boundaries has to be made to get some people to stop. Oh, and we've also had the issue of people urinating on tires..........my husband's friend who was camping with us saw this occur...........so he took some deer urine and poured it on the offender's tires........the next day you should have seen the look on the guy's face when there stood outside his truck a big ole buck.......

I make a point of teaching my 5 year old DD to respect not only our campsite (leave it the way we found or better)but to respect the privicy of others and their campsite boundry,s .
When she makes a new freind a campsite next to us and wants to play, she has to ask the parents if it is ok to enter their site before she does and I always go with her to make sure that it is ok and then I make sure I can watch her from my site so the other people our not babysitting or invite their child to our site.
And when someone walks thru my site I politely point the way around incase they are lost

I read these post all the time and just have to wonder where you camp... after 40+ years I have seen it happen a couple of times, and had it happen to me once... I could tell the young fellow had to hurry by the way he was walking and he didn't return through my lot...

myself I won't even cut through a vacant site, but have seen that done quite a few times...

if it were to happen to me, I sure wouldn't let it detract from my having a good time, and I wouldn't hesitate to tell someone doing it, that it is not appreciated, and suggest they read the rules where most CG's mention it in there...

if its a child I bet just asking if their parents allow them to do it, is enough to stop it in most cases... if its the parent and they haven't learned by now they will most likely never learn, but it sure don't hurt to tell them in case they are just slow learners...

I would never do many of the things mentioned in the thread... low trip cords, could be dangerous and could cause you problems no matter if its your site or not... bad dog signs won't help with a breed that is already being locked out of CG's through no fault of the dog or breed...

arranging chairs and parking certain ways should be effective and not endanger anyone, if it is really that much of a problem the yellow tape may be a alternative, but I don't necessarily want my site looking like a crime scene either...

I hope my site looks inviting because it is my intention for it to be inviting... I welcome almost anyone any time...
