Pete this is a critical part that many suggest the OEM part but there may be more high end clutches that are better as far as I know.

You would be better off asking for an 8.1 Chevy fan clutch, that is who made the engine. Workhorse won't mean anything to most parts people.

thanks for your replies. the oem part list for over $300.00. the fan clutch is not supplied by gm. i confirmed this with workhorse parts. the 8.1 fan clutch is 1.25 inchs less in diameter and the fan mounts with a 3/8 bolt instead of a 5/16. since workhorse does not make parts, it had to come from someone else. i just cant find a local parts house that can match it. thanks again

That is some pricey fan clutch. No wonder you are looking for the OEM source.

I don't know if it is the same fan clutch, but I bought an OEM for my 1990 454 for $84.51 from

Works great.

There have been many posts on this subject. try a search on fan clutch or specific the engine and fan clutch. The concenus was that after market clutches do not work. Three years ago I bought a GM clutch for my 454 for $178.00. Pricey but I had it exposed and decided it was to much trouble to pull out if the old one went bad.
Good luck

Hayden makes the fan clutch, www.haydenauto.com check the application guide. I believe that the one for your rig is the 2881, but check it out.
