Hi to all,
I purchased a 2005 Chevy 2500hd 4x4 6.0 with the 4L80E and 4:10 gears with 44,000 miles.
I know its not going to be great on gas but great for towing. For the first few weeks it was averaging about 13mpg,which I was good with.
Then it dropped down to 9mpg OUCH!! Any suggestions what could cause this?? Any advice is welcomed.. Thanks.

build up in the throttle body or your driving habits. I pull off the intake and spray B12 carb spray into the intake. be sure the motor is not running, you are on the intake side of the air senor and you may hurt the engine some. just spray around to get the black soot off the intake then start it up (after you put every thing back together). this will help you mileage some.

One bad tank of gas can cause all kinds of problems. Might change the fuel filter and try another tank from another store. Also, check your air filter.

Drop in a 20 ounce bottle of Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner. Also you do not have a fuel filter outside the tank starting with the 04 model.

I would stay away from Seafoam unless you plan to install a new fuel pump soon. Dad made that mistake a few times then it dawned on him that they where going out right after a each application.

On the Chevy 2500HD with a 6.0 gas, speed is a mileage killer. If you go over 60MPH for any length of time the mileage drops. When I cruise over 75MPH my truck will get around 9MPG. If I can keep it at 55MPH it will get 16MPG in the rolling hills of southern Ohio with the AC on. Go slow and your mileage will come back up. At 70MPH you are cranking 2500RPM and just sucking fuel.
I have a 2002 2500HD extended cab 4X4 6.0 gas with a ProCharger Supercharger making about 450HP. I can pull a lot and go real fast but doing either costs lots of gas.
Good luck, cruise control is your friend just like slow speeds.
