What does everyone use to keep there camper secure at night? Is the door lock enough or more. We use the door lock and a barrel bolt latch at the top just for the extra piece of mind incase my 4 year gets up in the middle of the night and decides to take a walk. Oh my that wouldnt be good.

When my DD was younger we had a Motion Detector With Security Alarm by Garrison. DH Velcroed it to the side of the cupboard closes to the door. When you walked in or out the alarm went off, we turned it on at night. Other than that we used the normal door lock.
The outdoors is a wonderful place to be....

IMHO some of us love to tent camp but dont want to be on the ground. Not to mention even those who have a hardshell TT, 5'er, and motorhomes all the doors are still set up basically the same as mine and I would imagine that those who have little ones would have a thought on there childeren getting outside at night. It could just be me but who knows.

We use the regular door lock and a 106 pound dog (CBR). It works for us.

I don't think we EVER locked ours. What are you thinking you need to be secure FROM (that can't just claw or cut their way through the fabric)?

If I'm worried people coming in, I move to another campground but I'm more concerned with everyone getting out in an emergency, fire, gas etc. I like the door alarm idea for the kids.

I had installed a two piece security alarm I picked up somewhere. One side attached to the door and the other to the frame, when turned on and seperated it made a rather large tone. It only went off once at night when DW forgot to turn it off during her nightly bathroom run. The camper next door mentioned it the next morning and was not happy . His wife thought it was a good idea with toddlers. We would attach it to the outside when we put the toddler down for a nap. That way if we were at the next campsite visiting we would hear it go off.

We keep our wallets and other valuables locked up in our TV... Our pup has a lock on the door that came with it... but we don't lock up the pup... I am sure if someone wanted to steal something, they would and not reck my canvas or screen etc... We also have Harley Dog security... anyone who comes by the pup, will be met by our camping dog Harley, she is 2 years old, german shepherd, boxer and lab mix... aka mutt... and she is a great watch dog, with a big mouth-bark.
We had one 4th of July weekend a few years ago, that turned into a Jerry Springer show at 2am, with drunken, yelling people a few campsite away. We did not have Harley yet, but I sure wanted something in my camper to protect us... Big Stick, Club, Cast Iron Frying Pan...CIFP is my favorite

ok maybe i didnt state my question right given the type of responses. having a alarm or lock on your door has nothing to do with people coming in the trailer. to be honest unless we are in bed the pup is never locked when we are at the site or away. i installed the barrel bolt lock so if my son gets up in the middle of the night and happens to be confused about where he is he cant get outside. he also is in the routine at home that he can get up in the middle of the night and go to the bathroom oviously he cant do that at a camp ground he will have to wake up mommy or daddy for that and i think everyone can agree about the worry about the standard lock being very easy to unlock. i do like the alarm idea but like stated in another post they are loud and the last thing i want to do at 3am is distrub my fellow campers. this post has nothing to do with camp ground safety and feeling that way. if i didnt have a young child i wouldnt have the latch. just making sure my question is coming out right. the way i see it is if you cant feel safe at a campground number 1 complain to the staff number 2 dont go back to that one period. most campgrounds are completly safe.
