I found the truck I've been looking for except it has the 4.10 axle ratio on the rear end. It's a 2008 SB 4x4 SRW 3500 Laramie package. I will be using this truck more for driving than towing and before I purchase I want to know what the difference in mileage to expect if it would have had a 3.73 axle ratio? I know it will probably be less but don't know how much. Any suggestions from people who have them would be appreciated.
Thanks

I've had both and you'll appreciate the 4.10 when towing. The MPG difference to that of a 3.73 will be neglegable.

These trucks have so much power that you don't need to have the 4.10. It won't hurt, and as mentioned, you won't notice any real mileage difference. The heavier the load the easier it will be with the 4.10, but again, these trucks have so much power, and right off idle, that you won't need the higher ratio IMHO.

I like my 4.10 but a lot of people don't. My worst empty mpg is 18.3 and that is all city driving and summer - AC doesn't get shut off. If the 08 is an auto you will have doudle OD and it won't be too bad on the hiway. Craig

With the 6-speed auto, these trucks are long legged. I have the 3:73, but I think the 4:10 would be fine. Power is great, mileage is fair to poor.

I agree! I have a 3.73 , 6spd. 04 Dodge 3500 I get 14 mpg towing a 12K 32' trailer and 19 empty.

The only thing about the 4:10s is that you really don't want to drive over 65 since the revs start to get really noticed...

You wouldn't need a 4.10 on that truck unless you pulling a house. My truck has 3.73s, and I still feel like I need a 7th gear on the highway, to many rpms for me, but it depends on you final trans. ratio.

If you do any hwy driving stay away from it. Poor mileage. I would look for the 3.73 with fuel prices only going up.

The 4.10 will get the same mileage as the 3.73 if you drive it about 10% slower, which means slowing down to 68 mph if you normally drive 75 mph.
