My wife wont drive in a big city, much less even think about pulling a trailer. It would be nice, but I love driving, camping and we mostly only do local trips so its not an issue right yet.

I remember my first solo trailer trip--a three week excursion of about 1500 miles to visit relatives and attend a family reunion--seven years ago. Don't know what my husband's feelings were at the time I pulled out of the driveway, but I don't think pride was among them. I'm sure he thought up to the last minute that I wouldn't really go.

Super Idea. Gonna teach my wife to hook and unhook. She doesn't mind driving, but like you I am sometimes on a hurricane ride out crew. Thanks for the idea.

Just a note, my DW can't do anything without written instructions, so I made a hookup list for her to study and get familiar with. She seemed real receptive of the idea.

Thanks again.

I think this is just great!!! I have helped my hubby with driving on most of our trips, but have not learned to hook & unhook the 5er. I have always assumed that it would be too difficult for me to handle the 5er on my own, but this has me wondering if I could learn to do it, even though I am not very strong. Thanks for sharing!

Way to go Seph! I haven't driven our truck towing the 5th wheel yet, but we've only been on one trip so far. I do intend to do it plus hitch up and set up by myself eventually. I've even talked to my sister about "girls only" trips. He doesn't like to participate in PowWows and we do.

Heck, Rockintom, I do pretty much everything my DH does, only some in different ways. I was in the service, I can drive anything he can, he has his motorcycle and I have mine, I physically built our house with him and a whole lot more. Oh, he's a pilot and I'm not, but I don't really like flying. Makes us even because I like to dance and he doesn't. He won't cook or do dishes, clean the bathrooms or fold clothes either so I get the privilege of doing them. Also, he doesn't usually mow the 10 acres of our land that is grass, garden or can all that great food he enjoys eating. I bet you have a similar situation with your DW. Give us some credit.

FormerHR: You are a good husband to encourage her and have faith that she could handle it.

Smart thinking Ryan and Seph. We are in a hurricane zone also so our TT is not just for pleasure. DH also has to stay behind when evacuations occur; he and I wanted me to be able to get out of dodge with the kids.

Hey PGR,
Thanks for the nice reply. I just think you and I are the exception to the rule and in fact the minority! I do almost of the domestic duties around the house. Cooking, cleaning, repairs, washing, laundry. My lovely bride will do the laundry sometimes because it's something she enjoys. I can sew, crochet, knit, decorate the home, shop, entertain, build a room on the house, build a deck, paint the house, roof the house, fix the rig, car, boat or whatever. I guess I was very lucky to have parents that raised me and my siblings to fend for ourselves and there are no such things as "blue and pink jobs". My comments were not meant to be offensive to a particular gender (just an observation). I'm amazed of how many men don't do various task...which our society claims are "women roles or pink jobs". I'm just as hard on the guys as the girls. This is an issue, IMHO, that has gotten better with time but has a ways to go. Again, this subject, I hope, will eventually will be a non-issue one of these days. Don't get me wrong we all have tasks that we excel in...like my wife is better at donating her time for the less fortunate than me. I'm usually too busy taking care of things around the house to make time for things like that! Just kiddin' as I volunteer too, but she's much better at it than me! Rockin'

I wish I could do it...but I know myself, I would cause some serious damage...guess I'll leave the camper towing to him.

Nothin redneck about it. I'd be boasting too.

My thoughts exactly. GO GIRL!!

We've been on the road for 17 months straight and I've gotten the wife to drive the rig about 10 miles. We both just wanted to make sure she could do it if the need ever arose.

We were on some dirt roads up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. When we finally got to the Camping spot, the motorcycle we carry on the back had come loose and was hanging off the back.

1st time it ever happened, and she just happened to be driving...LOL Now I cant get her behind the wheel to save her life.

I do love seeing women pull the big 5'ers though.

Great Post!

Pat
