I'm with those who say "keep it." You will lose lots of money moving down to something smaller, and towing a smaller trailer is not really any easier. Also, fuel economy while towing is not likely to change unless you tow often in stop and go traffic. Highway fuel economy is affected by aerodynamic drag far more than weight.

I vote keep it, 27' isn't that big
I second that.

We're only the two of us and we just traded UP from an 18' HTT to a 27' TT. We have the rear bed just in case the kids want to join us and the extra room overall is so nice in case we camp with friends or just make friends while camping that want to spend an evening inside playing cards or watching a movie.

You won't save that much fuel trading or buying down unless you go to a pop-up or small Hi-Lo.

I say sell it get a smaller one

then in a couple of years you can trade in the smaller one

for a larger one because you realize you need more room.

But that's just my way of doing things....

Ours is 29' overall and the reason we bought it was that it has the bunks and is big enough for the 4 of us and when the kids are done camping we'll turn the bunkhouse area into a nice big closet so it's small enough for the two of us.

27' is not that big - that means the box size is about 24' - i'm thinking that's about perfect for two!

I say keep it. You'll lose your shirt on it right now.

Let's see. You bought the TT last summer and this summer the teens don't want to camp anymore? Did they last year? Why did you buy it in the first place?
My wife and I enjoy our 27 footer and wouldn't want a smaller one. On a rainy day it gets even smaller!

I should have added that my husband has a devil of a time backing it up! He has practiced and practiced but it just hasn't hit the right elevator button yet! We've decided not to trade since we'll lose big time so we'll enjoy it and see what happens down the road.
Enjoy the road!

I'll ditto what has been said. 27' isn't that big, but you could probably sell it privately.....depends on how much you need to sell it for. Secondly, if you go with a smaller unit, make sure you won't regret giving up the extra room. DW and I are considering downsizing at some point....but we just came back from a 10 night trip, and really appreciate having the room. And...the rig is paid for...so for now, we'll just plan for the extra fuel costs, and enjoy what we have. Trading in for a new rig will cost $$$$$$$$$ that could be used for travel funds.

Good luck...take your time and think it out!

Our 32' seems just right for the 2 of us, cant imagine 27' being too big.

smaller trailers, by and large, aren't particularly easier to back up and can be harder, believe it or not. The longer wheel base of the larger trailer makes it respond a bit slower and in a more controlled fashion to the madly quasi random actions of the poor guy trying to drive the truck...

Shorter trailers are harder to backup because they require a quicker steering reaction time.

But, you can sell it on Craigslist very fast. Just list it at low retail, and it will go. Mine sold in 2 days. Used trailers don't last long on Craigslist.
