Ever action has a consequence, whether it be positive or negative.

I don't see why a LEO or COP giving a ticket for YOU breaking he law is them being a jerkwad! If I speed and I get caught I expect to get a ticket. I was breaking the law and that is the consequence(I have had my fair share of these).

Jeffk14, like I said in one of my posts here. I am none too thrilled with many of the younger breed. Now that I have said that again, let me clarify something for you. The reason LEO's, COP's, etc call someone a civilian is because in every state we are considered PARA-MILITARY. It's drilled in from day one at any academy. So yes, you are a civilian to me and other LEO's. All it means is that you are the ones we serve bud. Nothing else.

Considered para-military by who??? The job of a policeman and that of a soldier are two VERY different disciplines. While both are necessary and honorable professions, they have little in common. I personally know several soldiers who have returned from Iraq. None of them were very happy about having to play the role of policeman over there.

I'm 47 and you're right about one thing, most of the smart a** cops I've met are the twenty-somethings of late. Maybe it's just me, (and I'm rambling a bit now) but I don't like to see the bloused fatigue pants tucked into combat boots, T-shirts and military type covers (hats) that all the cops seem to be wearing nowadays. It seems to go hand in hand with the growing "police-state" environment that we live in today.

FWIW, note that I said that if I actually had an expired registration, I'd expect to get a ticket. If, on the other hand, I merely forgot to affix the new sticker, I think it would be a bit silly for an LEO to write a ticket (with fine) for that offense unless he/she was in the business of generating revenue.

Police agencies are structured very similarly to he military. They have the same type of chain of command in place and I know when they are going through training it is similar(note I said similar) to that of which the military goes through. Well maybe not the NavyFormer Army wife here.. I am just kidding.. sort of!

I think there are jerkwads in every job including military, police forces, government, bankers etc...

The definition of paramilitary is: Of, relating to, or being a group of civilians organized in a military fashion, especially to operate in place of or assist regular army troops. LEOs are civilians. They have uniforms and ranks but are law enforcement not military.

Really now. Ok since you're in NJ. Why don't you ask a Trooper, Corrections Officer, Sheriffs Officer or local Patrol Officer and see what their answer is.
And now back to the point. And it's real simple.
The OP goofed and did not renew his registration. He was pulled over by a LEO DOING HIS SWORN JOB. Pure a f'n simple folks. He caught a break from a good hearted cop. That is that. Stop making excuses for YOUR screw ups. Or your personal problems with cops. A cop on highway duty's job is to enforce the laws of the road. The OP goofed and broke the law. And again he got lucky. But those laws are are put in place to help keep the roads safe. Sure a missed registration is a petty thing. But how about a missed inspection? You know a 25 ton tractor trailer with brakes that are defective. Or perhaps tires that should have been replaced 2000 miles ago. Come on folks GROW UP and take responsibility for your actions/mistakes.

On a somewhat related note. In NEW HAMPSHIRE all trailers over 3,000 Lbs ARE REQUIRED to be INSPECTED at a State Inspection Station just like your car or truck. You will be issued a sticker with the opposing corners snipped off and a printed inspection report. The sticker is kept with your registration in your glove box. Makes a lot of sense to me.

It must be one of two things here with Soern.
Either he has been the target of many highway stops. Or... He didn't pass the civil service test for a LEO job he wanted.
I guess he feels that only some rules need to be obeyed.
I've been doing the job 22 years. I'll be the first to say that
I'm not thrilled with every cop I meet. Especially the younger small town types that have nothing better to do than harass skate boarders in back parking lots. But when you have an expired tag, it's just that. And the cop you pulled over the OP gave them a break. HE DID NOT HAVE TO DO THAT. And I NEVER said kiss up to him.
On a lighter note dear Soren...Good example your buddy set for the boy scouts in the "be prepared" department. Have a nice day.
Too funny! Actually, I would rate being a cop right up there with scrubbing job jonnies, or painting lines on the road with a toothbrush. And yes, as a young, law abiding, trouble free, white male I have been physically assaulted and harassed by the knuckle dragging scum that passed for LEOs in the little town I was raised in. So you are quite aware of how and why I, and many of the productive citizens of our country, developed such a fondness for you and your buddies. If you have seen the behavior and stood by, you are no better, just another criminal who will never see justice. You are also aware that there are hundred of insignificant "infractions" that a typical patrol officer witnesses everyday and ignores, as they don't really mean a rat's butt hair in the big picture. Any officer who demands that a vacationer park his RV immediately, due to a minor violation, is just being a jerk who enjoys abusing his power. If you had any integrity you would freely admit that your kind typically have two sets of rules. Rules that you follow and rules that you randomly expect the public to obey. If you are young and black in many of our nation's communities, you will be stopped and abused until you get the hint, and stay away from the areas you "don't belong" OTOH, if your 18YO, DUI and crashed in a ditch, you get a free ride, IF daddy is a detective in the next town. As for your "Good Example" comment, it certainly was, as a fellow human, he made a minor mistake, he isn't perfect like you. The good example was a local clown strutting around like some character on South Park, acting like a total horse's axe. As soon as the show was back on the road, the boys immediately started a conversation about that being the biggest jerk they ever met. Clearly a "win for the good guys" Another generation of our youth that get's a first hand look at the abuse of power some of you have once you are mistakenly handed a gun and a badge. Yea, your right, the older I get, the more I'm impressed. Civil service test? too funny. BTW, I LOVE the "have a nice day" comment. You are just too hard. Did you type that with your mirrored shades on, a toothpick in you teeth, while softly stroking your long barreled 45? So Dirty Harry, so macho, I can smell the testosterone from here. you are my new hero......

Agrnbrt, like I said before, I've got nothing against police officers. No screw-ups on my record either. To get an idea of where I was coming from (and a glimpse into what makes me tick) when I jumped into this thread, take a look here where I kind of flew off the handle on another issue (no, I wasn't drunk at the time). I tend to be a bit of a Libertarian and don't have a lot of regard for gov't in general unless said gov't is exercising powers expressly provided for in the Constitution and nothing else. That being said, I don't really have a problem with the authorities requiring vehicles operated on public roads to be kept in a safe roadworthy condition because operating unsafe eqp't has the potential to effect others in a negative way. In my state, there are no requirements for safety inspections on personal vehicles, but you can be cited at any time for unsafe eqp't (bald tires, inoperative lights, etc.).
