Finally a correct answer.
I doubt it. When was the last time you saw the build number on the exterior of any vehicle, especially that large and prominent. Build/line up numbers are only important while the vehicle is on the assembly line, after that everything is tracked by VIN.

Build numbers is not a good answer. Some dealers in the west use numbers for inventory purchases. So I stand to be corrected.

I did not think you could join the Airstream club unless you owned an Airstream, so why would this Winnie have an Airstream number? Makes no sense to me that it would be An Airstream number. So anybodys guess could be right on this. By the way click on the forth picture to get a better look at the number.

I may be mistaken, but I don't think he was saying that it was an Airstream number. It was more that it might be a number along the lines of those used by the Airstream association, that is, some kind of a club number.

On an Airstream, it is likely an Airstream club number. They've been doing this for more than 40 years, for caravans and just a sense of belonging.
But on any RV, it could be a club number, a number assigned for duration of a Caravan (which could be a commercial caravan, or a club caravan). It could also be a tracking number for a rental fleet.
On the Winnebago, my bet is a WIT number. It is a relatively low number and an relatively old Winnebago.
If we issued numbers for our club, we could cover all past members since founding with two digit numbers

We have the Holiday Rambler membership numbers on our NH end caps, too. A side benefit is that family members know the numbers should we ever need to be searched for.

One street we go down from time to time has an older Air Stream Class A that is always parked in the same place. Today I noted it has the number 1172 in large print on the upper front end cap just under the roof marker lights. I was just looking at prices on E-Bay and saw the above 1986 unit with a four digit number the upper rear.
Does anyone know why some MH's have these numbers or what they mean? Numbers are from the Wally Byam Airstream Club. My parents had 8008 on their Excella 500. They asked for a "nice round number" and the 8008 is what they got. Can't get much "rounder" than that.

yep, we had a TT from MT and it had the number on it. Just sold it and the buyers asked what the number was for.
