when you consider these border agents are protecting our respective countries.

Like who are they protecting us from , each other?

Believe it or not their are people who smuggle drugs, tobacco , alcohol, abducted children, illegal aliens etc. and people who would use any means possible to kill any and all Americans if given the opportunity.
Would you prefer no border security?

In regards to the original questions. Be prepared to answer any questions and open up any thing that the border workers wish. Contrary to much folklore they will not "rip you trailer to shreds" if they search it. They will treat your positions with respect. I cross 8-10 times per year via land. At least 4 of those are with an RV. About 1 time ever two years or so we get searched. Usually takes about 10 mins or less. We don't do anything that we need to hide so I don't worry much about it. I always allow a little extra time to cross a border in case we get such a delay. The last time I got searched the border person was more interested in what I though about my 5er than what was in it. Remember.....if you are crossing into a foreign country you are a guest as with any guest you can be asked to leave. You may not like their rules but while there you must obide by them. Crossing a border is not a scarry experience and is no reason for concern.

If that is the case ,and I believe it is in some instances then we have no business to brag about the longest undefended border in the world.
It appears that only the Europeans can rightfully make that claim .
Personally I long for the day that the only official presence at the border would be immigration officers.

Regarding my original question: we are trying to get an idea of how much time it's going to take to pass through customs (and were hoping to find that we probably won't have to take the time to raise the top of the camper.) We won't be bringing anything illegal into Canada, will not have fresh food and our pills will be in the RX bottles. Appreciating all advice to help us have everything in order to get on the road to see the beautiful Rockies as we pass through to Alaska. Thanks!

With us it's taken as little as 30 seconds and as much as about 10 minutes depending upon the agent.

From a 'wait-in-line' perspective here are some of the times across the country; this list is updated regularly throughout each day.

Thank you so much! We are crossing at Sweet Grass and looks good today. Are you a back-packer or a Green Bay Packer-Backer?
