Have had a couple of transmission failures where we needed help and got it. Also have helped tow a few times. Most help given is teaching folks how to back up their rigs. Generally, if you need help ask a SKP.

I had someone ask me to move a Teton triple axle from Dallas to a Ft Worth consignment lot. It had been sitting for about 5 years. I took a look at it and discovered 2 tires blown from sitting. Even though I have a 1-ton dually long-bed, I was concerned about weight and clearance. I then discovered the registration had expired about 3-years ago. I decided it was too much risk for me. The owner finally reregistered it and moved it with his 14K Reese 5th wheel.

I also agree with the other posts that say it depends on my read on the person, the way they asked, and what they needed done. Along the same tangent... in campgrounds I've loaned things (tools, hoses, etc) to people and declined to loan things to people based on how they asked.

Here's a variation on the scenario... DW does not remember how to hitch up the FW and will not drive it in tight spaces - but she has driven it on roads. I've asked her what she would do if I ever got sick and she needed to move our FW. Would you hitch my truck to my FW and drive it out of a site to help out if someone had gotten sick?

Depends on your wife (NOOOO, not that way! )

I'll always help out when somebody asks, as long as they are "asking" and not "telling" and there's a good reason why they can't do it themselves. Sick, broken truck, newbie - no problem. So drunk they can't remember which end of the truck goes under the trailer - forget it.

I recently helped a gal get her trailer hooked up here in Norfolk. Her husband is a fellow Navy Chief Petty Officer that I've never met. He's deployed on an aircraft carrier and she was moving the family back to Montana. You have to respect a Mom who will undertake that kind of adventure with three pre-teen kids and a fifth wheel.

She was worried about getting it right because her husband dropped the trailer on the bed of the truck after the dealer hooked it up when they took delivery. Then, when she moved out of the house and into the trailer, she forgot to put the landing gear down when she arrived at the RV park here. Fortunately, there was no major damage in either incident other than some bowed bed rails.

I would have done it if I felt comfortable. Recently we had to ask our insurance company if we could pull anothers 5th wheel due to them having a emergency situation and needing to have the camper returned to their home. I was advised I was covered.

Polite "No" - unless there's some unusual circumstances.
(Note: Poster said from a storage facility - not a break-down).

If I was in a jam - I sure wouldn't be picky about which site!

Most storage facilities close to campgrounds have a moving service
for their storage customers.

Usually the fee is in the $40. range - which includes moving it
onto a site & taking it back to storage when your stay is over.

If that wasn't the case (not aval via the storage outfit),
I would suggest he check with the campground for a "mover" reference
to do that.

Agree with the potential liability issues.

Sometimes you just get a feeling a person does not really need help as much as he is trying to take advantage. And the way it turned out I think this guy was just looking to take advantage of someone.

Sorry I can not do something that I could not bring myself to comfortably ask someone else to do for me. Asking someone else to move my trailer for me is just too much. Especially if I just wanted to try out 4 or 5 other sites. As someone posted there are pros that do this for a fee. They know the right kinds of questions to establish insurance, ownership, or other issues that I hav not even thought of. Too many unknowns to put myself at risk. Divorce/repo/stolen/college-prank...??

Like and Ex brother in law that picked up the wrong trailer and pulled it 85 miles back to a guy`s house.Every thing was going good until the guy came home and called and ask him who's trailer that was in his yard.
He had been one sight off in the camping area. Not a camp ground just were people own lots buy a lake and use them for camping in the summer.
Any way he was lucky that the guy that owned the trailer he pulled was a good guy and was to busy laughing to do any thing about it.So all he had to do was put it back where he found it.But with the wrong person it could have been bad for him.
