I have two new Samsung LCD HDTVs. One is the model LN-T2653H. The other is LN-T4061F I also have a Toshiba LCD HTDV. All are on the same cable system.

On my Comcast expanded basic cable, the Toshiba will pick up digital channels 11-1 and 13-1 (as well as others). However... neither of the Samsungs will "find" these two channels. I can get 11-2, 13-2, and others but not the two I need. Neither Samsung picks those up on auto-scan.

I have not been able to find out if Houston Comcast uses STD, HRC, or IRC.. but I have tried auto-scan for each with no obvious change on the Samsungs.

Any suggestions ?

If you're tuning HD OTA signals from your cable provider the TV's tuner must support the QAM specification. It's possible the Samsung tuners don't. STD, HRC, or IRC modulations don't apply to digital cable feeds, those are analog modulations.

On cable I don't think you should not be getting 11-1 13-1 ect. Those are the over-the-air numbers. You may live near the transmitters and are picking up stray signals.
On the back of the Samsungs you have two antenna connectors, ANT1 & ANT2(cable).
You should have the Cable connected to ANT2. Just find a rabbit-ear antenna, doesn't need to be fancy, and plug it into ANT1. Then do a channel scan, make sure the set will be scanning AIR. You should get all the DTV Stations and this is the way to get the best HDTV picture.

We have a satellite system, but now with an antenna and Digital TV, we hardly watch the satellite at all. May just get rid of it.

I am on the same cable package I have had for 18 years.. have not asked them to "upgrade" to digital cable. I have no cable boxes or digital converters. However, when on cable, both brands of sets get many digital channels that are also on analog cable, like CNN, Fox News Channel, etc. Although at a channel number like 76-330 for Fox News. You just have to let the set auto-program and then search them out. In addition, they all pick up some of the HD local signals on the cable like 2-1, etc. So some of the digital signals are on the existing cable and are not scrambled.

It just seemed strange to me that one brand would clearly pick up something like 11-1 Local CBS HD on cable, and the others won't although all will pick up 11-2 which is CBS local weather.

Chuck,

I still think you are picking up some of the signals off the air. Try the ANT1 with a small rabbit-ear antenna, you may be pleasantly surprised with all the stations you can get.

This is also one of those times that if I was there I could say " oh yea, now I know what the problem is".

Remember the old days when you just turned it on and the picture was there? Of course, it was only 3 or 4 channels.
