I bought a RV part for my Jayco from E-Bay last week.
As always, a knowledgeable consumer is always careful. I retired after 30 years as a cop...and I almost (I said almost ) fell for a official looking e-mailed PayPal notice that came for me. It said someone had fraudulently used my PayPal account, and to make sure that I hadn't been defrauded I needed to fill out a form and return it. It had security seals all over it to lure you into actually believe it was authentic! Very, very well done and professional in appearance. I noted that at the top of the page, the "http://www." address was not a Paypal address.
I forwarded it to Ebay/PayPal for their fraud division. No reputable company will ever solicit you for personal info, credit card numbers, ID, Social Security info, address, passwords, etc. The FBI says they believe that the Nigerian Students are becoming more sophisticated in their efforts to defraud, so always be aware! I noticed that not a single reference was in the e-mail that I got, regarding their "diposed King dying" leaving millions of dollars to me! Just a friendly reminder to my RV.Net buddies!
Thanks for the warning. You really have to be on your toes to avoid identity theft. Last week Blue Cross/Blue Shield called me and I was so paranoid that I made her give me her name and the number she was calling from (even though the caller ID did identify her as being from Blue Cross). I then called them back and answered her questions. You must constantly be on alert!! I hope your message saves someone a lot of headaches.

CapeM1, I hope you looked up the phone number you were given on revere look up. To see if in fact is was the Blue Cross, it will also give you the address of the phone number. Bill
I receiver 3 pay pal E mails this week wanting me to upgrade my account. Trouble is I HAVE NO PAY PAL account. So along with your bank ID number, SS number, and Credit card number, this information was necessary for the up grade. Yah Right.
They are out there, so be careful.
I've gotten that PayPal e-mail on several occasions....knew it was a fraud, as my wife has the account, not me! So, I forwarded it to PayPal, and they agreed that it was in fact a fraud.
Best bet....avoid anything that is coming to you via e-mail....unless you can verify it somehow.
But for those you you trusting souls.....I've got a really nice 2008 Class C, loaded with everything including a masseuse, a refrigerator that is forever full of beer, and it gets 60 mpg!!! for just $5,000.......um, you can send that money via my special PayPal account in Nigeria! Really!!! OK, I know I lost you with the 60 mpg!! :-)

Polishnurse. Yes. I had to call the 800 number that is on my ID card and then had to give the extension number that the caller gave me. Sorry I was not more clear on that in my original post.. You are right about making sure the number is not a fake also.I was lucky to be able to verify it.
I get those at least daily, rhe last on even had paypal addresses in it. Really good, but since I already knew PayPal didn't send those out I forwarded it to spoof@paypal.com.

With my business I work with the elderly. I am always telling my clients to never speak to anyone that calls them asking for information. Many of my clients are early dementia and I worry about them.
One lady who was rather well off informed me that she had won the Canadian Lottery. I questioned her and found out that she had sent $10k to someone in Canada, and she was wanting me to take her to the bank to get a cashiers check to send another 5k as there were more taxes due.
When I tried to explain to her that it was a hoax, she assured me that it was not as she had received a box of roses from the guy after she sent the 10k. Sad.
Once she figured out that I was correct, she informed me that she was receiving many phone calls from all types of winnings. All of them saying that she only had to pay the taxes. The first one must have sold her number. We had to change her number.
Just can't trust anyone.
