The thought hit me this morning while letting Cutie Pie,our CD, out to potty, what if one of those bottle rockets landed on our TT's rubber roof? Rockets were flying last night and I never thought about the possibility of one landing on the rubber roof until this morning when I looked at the skyline and wondered if the front yard would be full of fireworks trash from the neighborhood kids. Then wham it hit me don't worry about that trash you better be checking that roof. As soon as I have enought daylight to see, I'll be on the roof checking it out.
I hadn't even thought about the safety of the roof during the 4th because my original plan was to be camping like last 4th of July weekend. Our TT has been in the driveway since last weekend because the yard was wet and I had been prepping things for this weekend.

I think most are pretty well out before they hit the ground. We had a huge Tstorm last night just before dark so no worries.

Family of 4 saved by Grace!!! MY TRUCK OUR TRAILER
After spending last New Year's Eve hosing down the roof to my trailer, I sent a PM to a forum member who has been at it a long time and whose answers I've always trusted. Primarily I asked him if my concern was justified. Here is his answer:
"I would think the concern is genuine however it would take a "perfect storm" type event to do any real damage. Fireworks have been known to start grass fires when things are dry so they obviously can create enough heat to be dangerous to your roof but it would be a slight chance unless you have an excessive amount of them being shot off in your area. It does sound like keeping the roof wet would be a good idea in that case. Another possible way of protecting it might be parking under trees or using a canvas tarp on the trailer and wet IT down but at least it sounds like you're on top of what is needed."
I DEFINITELY had an "excessive amount" being shot off close to my house last New Year's Eve, however it wasn't nearly as bad this July 4th. Since I was going to be home anyway, I went ahead and wet down the roof just in case a "stray" found it. I especially liked his idea of wetting down a canvas tarp in that one wouldn't have to stay home to "babysit' the trailer on holidays. It also occurred to me that I could use one of those sweeping sprinklers that hooks to a garden hose and water the grass and the roof of my travel trailer at the same time. Not a good idea in the winter if it is below freezing.....which it seldom is here. I don't object to the fireworks - just want to protect my roof.
Several years ago a church my M-I-L attended had a fire on the roof caused by bottle rockets! Did a lot of damage to the building before it was caught so I think it's a valid worry. Glad I have an aluminum roof!
