My Husband and I just got a new ford f150 4x4 5.4l with the towing package and we were interested in getting a new 5th wheel. We wondered if anybody new about the towing capacity for the fords and how the new light/ultra light fifth wheels towed. We would appreciate any info we could get. thanks

I think you will have to search hard to find something in a 5er that is safe/fun to tow behind a 150.

do all the research know exactly how much weight you can tow before you go shopping for an RV
salesman will sell you what you want even if you can safely pull it or not.

When we were looking at fifth wheels, we were caught between getting an F350 or F450 to pull 16,000+ lbs. How much can you tow with the F150 towing package?

You will get much more trailer if you go with a bumper pull. The pin weight is what the 1/2 ton can't take very much of. The only fvers you will be able to tote safely are going to be very small. Check your GVWR, add up the weight of the truck with fuel tank, all occupants and gear, plus the pin weight of the fver and you will see not many will fall withing range. For a bumper pull if you stay below a 6500lb dry weight you should be fine. This will put you in the 27-30ft range. Be sure to buy a good hitch with w/d and sway control and if you have a auto trans a trans temp gauge is a must, and not the junk gauge Ford is installing and calling it a trans gauge. Mostly good info. As mentioned. There are 5ers a 150 can safely tow. But they are small. Tag alongs may be more in you size range.

With a few exceptions, your rear suspension is going to hate you if you try to put a 5th wheel on an F-150.
Best bet will be a travel trailer weighing <5500 lbs dry and a decent weight distributing hitch.
I hope you got the 3.73 rear end. I've got 3.55 and really wish I had the 3.73.

The answer to this question was really tough on us. We had a brand new 2008 Ford F150. The Ford dealer assured us it would pull our TT. The dealer at Jayco said he thought we would be okay. Well, on our first trip, over Monteagle on I24E, it pulled us down to 35 miles per hour. To make a short story long, we had to trade for a 2008 F250 Heavy Duty Diesel. Now it pulls just fine. We really did hate giving up our new and paid for F150.

Stop by a Ford dealer and get the towing guide. I got one a couple of days ago and the way I read it the absolute max you can tow with a F150 4x4 is 9300 pounds.
