Maybe you should hang a "bump lock" key on the outside of your rig so you can have someone with a small hammer get you out.
It is bad when you have to worry about being accidently locked INSIDE your RV.

Hmmm...I'm thinking troll here.
#1 "had to break a window to get out." Why not use an emergency exit window?
#2 "went out through laundry chute." Onceinto the chute...how do you get out of your basement if the compartments are locked?
This sounds like a real possiblity turned into a troll story.
Edited for Olbombero's sake.....The whole thing with my post is about the damage. Heck my cat can KICK out a basement door or pry it open with a screwdriver or two. And same goes for breaking out a window. That's the point I'm trying to make. DAMAGE. they key is to get out without DAMAGE.
You can get locked in. But the whole "breaking out" part is what I'm refering to. Too dramatic.

Troll or not - the "originals" made good "heads up" that a couple of screwdrivers should be able to solve. (Mine are close - but not because of that).
#2. Laundry Chute and Locked storage compartments? ROTFL for both !!
Give me a medium screwdriver and I (or anybody else) can get -IN-
any "locked" storage compartment in about 20 seconds.
Went to plain thumb turn "locks" long ago.
The -OUT- would be just as easy! One well-planted 10 1/2 would take care of the locks - you would prob be horizontal anyway . . . . but pliers or small screwdriver to make it a "nice" exit (twist or pry the latch).
But sure wonder about all the stuff -INSIDE- the storage compt when you go "down the chute" - LOL!
True Emergency?
Emergency Exit window - OR the aforementioned "well-planted" 10 1/2.
I -KNOW- I'm tougher than an RV door (even barefoot)!

We had a hybrid travel trailer and the lock got stuck. We were on the outside so you couldn't remove the lock from the outside. We had a fold down queen bed and a cargo door on the back so we did get in but it made me think really hard about future trailers and I"m looking hard at one with two doors.

It happened with my old truck camper. The lock broke and couldn't be opened from the inside. I replaced the lock with new and it was working fine when I sold the camper.
All RV are required to have an emergency exit, usually a roof vent. Breaking out a window is not necessary to get out. Familiarize yourself and your family with the location and operation of the emergency escape hatch.

I'm guessing that in a "true emergency" I won't be trying to get out the window. A good kick to the inside of the door should do the trick. Can't be any harder than kicking in a residential door, can it? I've had to force entry to a few homes before and it was not that hard. No, I'm not a burglar.....

It happened to us. The cheep china pot metal bolt busted on our latch. Now with our latch the handle pulls the bolt open & a spring holds the bolt shut, so when the bolt broke it locked. Took cover off checked it out, so I get my drill & drill a hole in the bolt, then take a screw driver & push it open. After that I had to go to 4 RV Dealers to find the door latch that would fit the hole in the door & that cheep china junk latch cost me $90+.
