I have a Carrier A/C that also controls the furnace. The remote to operate it (only way it can be worked except for emergency mode) stopped working. Went to dealer, he said all he did was install new batteries. It worked for a few days. I tried to do that earlier and it did not work even following directions. Now it has stopped working again. We are leaving early next week for a major vacation and need to have the unit working. I have a call in to dealer, but he is closed now and not open until Monday. That is cutting it too close. Anyone have any experience with this? I take the batteries out, put them in (good batteries) and then hit reset button. It just flashes all kinds of partial screens on the control. Anyone who can offer help? I really can't have it messed up on the trip or wife will be forever down on camping, etc. Thanks in advance.

Quote: It just flashes all kinds of partial screens on the control Then what does it do? Are sure the batteries are good and installed correctly? If so and the remote does not have the proper screen, your remote is bad, maybe the dealer can trade you one out of another unit.

There is a verrry small reset button that is recessed into the battery compartment on teh remote itself. You will need a paperclip or a very thin ball point to do this. Put fresh batteries in and start pressing reset. If you have more than one A/C, you will only have one furnace. I have ours set up as A and B. A controls the furnace. I believe this info is in your owners manual. take a look there and see. I hope you get it worked out. Un-programmed remotes are a pain...
Good luck and keep us posted...

Also make sure the remote isn't set to be the "thermostat" Mine its called the "I feel" setting the remote is constantly on and drawing power from the battery and sending corrections about every minute to the AC/Furnace controller and it drains the battery VERY quickly. Its nice if you put the remote by your chair as the temp on the ceiling is nowhere near what te rest of the coach is but it does drain the remote battery.

Go to Costco and buy a big pack of AAA batteries.. Those things eat 'em like they were M*M's
And the push buttons have two functions.. A quick tap of the "Cool" button sets it to a default temp. I think 72 but please check your owner's manual
Press and hold till something happens and it goes into "Emergency mode" aka ON! (no auto off, it will take the coach down COLD if it can)
Likewise on the heat,, Quick tap sets default temp (I have no clue) and press and hold turns furnace on, full
NOTE; I have found when heating (not a problem on AC with fan on high) but on heating.. The thing will not track room temp well.. A small clip on fan clipped somewhere else in the RV blowing at that little nipple on the AC unit that controls the furnace (if you have 2) tames it right down
With the furnace set at 68, no fan my rig will hit 90.. With the fan perhaps 69, Very tame.. Just so you know
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

Not sure I understand all of your questions but my Carrier has buttons near the filters that allows you to use the A/C or heater by pushing them. It will not start and stop as if controlled the thermostat and you have to push the button again when you want to shut it off. The owners manual will tell you what temperature it will shut off when you use the over ride buttons.

The batteries are good. The emergency cool and heat work by hitting the switch on the AC itself. Thus, I am pretty sure it is the remote. The remote just flashes all kinds of stuff. I have hit the reset button and yes it is small and requires a pin. Is there a time limit to do anything? Do I have to point the remote at the AC unit? I am really really frustrated and am worried about the time element. Any other ideas? Thanks

Yes, remote should be pointed to bottom of unit and I hear a beep when it receives the signal. Does not beep when signal fails to reach the AC unit.. I usually stand almost under the unit.
Still doesn't expain the stuff you are seeing on the remote. Did you by chance get it wet? Left mine near the kitchen sink and got water under the screen. Opened it up and dried it out. All is well. I still have original batteries after almost 2 years.

Oh, on the Carrier remotes.. If you look at the back there is a small hole with the word RESET printed next to it.
Standard un-bent paper clip works well to press the switch hidden below the hole
They suggest this if you are having the kind of problems you are having
