Just my $.02, probably over valued opinion, but, your nation did not become the nation it is today by succumbing to fear-mongering. The Rv'ing spirit is akin to the pioneer spirit of your ancestors.
Folks will continue to do what it is they dream of doing regardless of government or economic influences. Yes, they will make adjustments to lifestyles but in the end this continent, U.S.A & Canada, will continue to thrive and it's citizens will continue to fulfill their dreams.

Ummmmmmmm, it's NOT the government that is bidding up the price of a barrel of oil, it is speculators in the stock market.

So I suppose what you folks are saying that "our" freedom to bid in the free market should be curtailed?
(I don't buy futures, personally)

People are just fed up and need a place to vent. Something needs to give!! Heck, my wife and I cant afford to go camping anymore. Matter of fact, we're planning on selling ours just so we can have kids. I'll have to put them on my "family plan" since she doesent have one which makes my health care go from $125 per month to about $500. Bye bye camper! Oh but with my 2% raise this year everythings going to be ok. $24.33 per pay check before taxes...I'll just stop my rant there, back to the topic at hand.

This is a trend that's going to continue for several years. Every time you turn on the news all you hear is how this company or that company is cutting back or completely closing it's doors. It's not just the cost of fuel that's causing the problems. You can pick from a list of things, from health care, the housing market, etc.

Anyway, I can't even see a light at the end of this tunnel. On our last trip I didnt see half the RV's I usually see on the road. Don't count on Congress to do anything about it either. Half of those bozo's have their hands in the oil industries and health industries pockets. Why should they care? They are not living paycheck to paycheck like most American's are.

Okay, I'm done with my rant.....
Ken

I'm glad you're done with your rant, now for mine.

Yes, this country is going to hell in a handbasket.
Yes, there's greedy politicians out there -always have been, always will be.

Now for the reason behind the purple haze:
The next time you go into the doctor's office, the emergency room, or even think of calling 911 for an ambulance, just remember.....................................................................................you stepped on some mighty big toes here.

I have only worked in the medical field for 9 years, but I've worked hard to get where I am and will tell everybody that not only am I in it for a living, but also BECAUSE I LIKE TO HELP PEOPLE OUT.

Try living on a Paramedic's wage if you think "healthcare" gets so much money.

So.............knock off the c(@& and get to the real point, you can barely afford what you have to start with (house, car, RV) and now you're blaming the rest of us????

Give me a break!

Where did you get the impression that I was blaming you or anyone else? When I say health care, I'm not talking about Paramedics. I'm talking about the cost of medication, such as pills, that cost the pharm companies 10 cents to make and sell for $5.00 a piece. I'm talking about the cost of health insurance. I'm talking about the sky-rocketing cost of co-pays, the outrageous cost of MRI's, etc.

When I talk of the housing market am I talking about realtors? No. I'm talking about the idiots that approved loans to people with bad or no credit that had no business purchasing a home in the first place. It all comes back to one thing, both in health care and housing......GREED.....it's the American way.

Congress has the power to do something about these things. Yet all we see is their "dog and pony" show trying to pull the wool over the publics eyes. They know if they actually did do anything about it they'd have to take a huge pay cut.

And by the way, I can perfectly afford everything I have so don't go on a rant about how "I blame everyone else because I can't afford what I've got". I retired when I was 43 years old after 21 years as a cop working some very dangerous areas and assignments. Yes, we're the ones that go in and make it safe for you before you have to go in. Think about that next time you go out on a call with a cop.....

Heck, buy a used truck. Dealers around here won't take them in trade.

Sold the 5er last week and traded in the Cummins on Saturday. The dealer had to call around to find a wholesale buyer before they would take it as a trade. Got lucky and found a buyer in Georgia and I'm pleasantly surprised at how much they allowed for it.

I will miss the RV lifestyle (started in 80's) and many of you fine folks who helped with ideas and advise through the years I've visited these forums. We simply can't justify the expense anymore. Pulling into the gas station and paying $150+ to fill the tank kinda takes the fun out of it. Best of luck to those of you who will keep going!

Well this has turned into CNN real quick!

I realize the market is tough right now, but everyone after 9/11 got stuck-in-a-rut with the news organization's predicting the death of America and WWIII.

We all need to remain positive, buy American when possible and car pool, reduce silly consumption of oil products. Switch to wood and wood pellet products to help with the heating of your home, that will save you some $$ this winter.

I think when this is all over we will have a stronger market and Country.

A few months back I decided to pick up some extra cash by working for an RV transport company out of Wakarusa, Indiana. I've never seen so many campers packed into every lot within 30 miles.

I started asking dealers what they were seeing. They said they really had to go the extra mile to sell to people out looking. They even offered to transport a camper to a campground to allow a couple to spend a weekend in it.

RV transport drivers have about a 80% turn-over rate the first several months. It's so expensive hauling campers. Buyers are cutting back on the number of camping trips they take each year and they are staying in loval campgrounds. Soon they will realize it isn't such a great investment if they only use it once or twice a year. It would be cheaper to stay in a hotel.

Now they are already predicting oil to spike up to $300-$400 a barrel, making gas at the pump head up to and maybe past $10 a gallon in the next couple years. I am expecting the next President to have to make some difficult decisions, including rationing. Maybe our government will protect or subsidize the cost of diesel, in order to preserve the trucking and transport industry. Maybe I should start making friends at local restaurants in hopes of getting a hold of their old cooking oil.

GEEZ!......all this doom and gloom..........don't you folks realise that this isn't the first downturn of the economy that this country has seen? These downturns come in cycles and when the economy self corrects we will see better times. Life is too short to listen to all of the liberal propaganda that we are bombarded with every night in the media. I don't care if diesel goes up to 20 bucks a gallon.......I'm not selling anything and will continue to camp in the 5er.

Dadgumit, they sure must have paid a lot better in New Mexico, than they do here in Michigan. I have a lot of friends in Law Enforcment, and I didn't see them retire at 43 after 21 years on the job. Hmmm I wonder? Oh by the way, I'm a retired Firefighter Paramedic!

Still camping at our favorite local campground today. It was full the day before 4th of July and kind of emptied out on Sunday as expected. The one thing I notice about his campground is that there are a lot of repeat business and people that live within a 30 mile radius. I travel on big east/west hwy daily and always see campers---everything from the big diesel pushers to pop-ups. The campgrounds near my house are full or mostly full on weekends. I haven't noticed a drop in rv's on the road or campground capacity, but I know gas prices have affected our travel and the travel of family and friends.
